Otterbox for Droid

Pardon me if this is a duplicate, but I searched and found no other thread concerning this:

Well that sucks..can't post pics/links for ten more posts, but anyhow....

Otterbox is making a case for the Moto Droid. (Commuter series).

So has anyone seen, or own one? I'm very interested as their other products are great, but want a review on one before sending out the cash.

I got mine in yesterday. This case is SWEET dude. Best one yet. I've tried several, Innocase, Nite Ize, the official Droid holster/case. Otterbox said they might make a holster for this specific case too which would be just perfect.

I really dig the dust plugs for the ports though. I feel like I can pull this out in the rain and not worry about anything getting in if I'm just casually using it. It's also good for light geocaching, if you're on a trail and stir up some dust or something or the wind blows your ports are ok.

My fave by far, the screen protector is also pretty decent. Has a real nice glide to it, much nicer than the official screen protector they were shipping from VZ.

I ordered my otterbox a few days ago, and I'm waiting as patiently as I can for it. Hopefully in the next few days I will get it. Can't wait!

There is, it's not inbuilt to the case though, it's a traditional screen protector that you apply yourself. They picked a really good one though. Great tactile feel. I had a Commuter for my old 3GS and the screen protector it came with was second only to the Power Support anti glare screen protector.

I'd say this one is the best one out there for Droid users.

Yeah, didn't think I needed a protector, but I have managed to get a VERY small scratch and my OCD is making it large... May have to try a protector... Can't imagine I'll like one, but I'll have to try.

Hmm... I have the extended Seidio Inno battery, but may just get the otter and a few oems...

I have had mine for 2 days now and have a small "review" for you.

Basically the case consists of 3 pieces, a small "tray" style piece the phone slides into. You start by placing the bottom "lip" with the VZ logo in the soft rubber padded tray and push the top in. There is a cutout on the back for the speaker on the bottom (the gold perforated metal) and a small hold at the top on the back where audio seems to come from too when playing music or Pandora.

Otter made a smart molding decision in my opinion by making the case appear "bowed" when placed back down on a flat surface. Basically both ends are bent slightly downward so there is a small space below the phone and it is not perfectly flat on the table, etc. This is nice because the audio is not muffled this way if you are on the speaker phone or listening to streaming audio it is not important to have the unit face down.

There is also a cutout for the camera lens and flash on the back.

The "tray" portion of the case has a rubberized plug for the USB charging port that fits perfectly. In addition there is a rubberized plug for the audio jack on the top. The only very small complaint here is it is just beside the rubberized button for the screen on / off button and because it is molded to the same rubber base unless you are paying attention and ONLY try to "open" the audio jack plug you may try to "open" the screen button piece as well. It pulls up slightly on the side but is not totally separated from the audio port. This is really Motorola's design problem but I thought I would point it out.

On the right side of the phone is the well known rubberized buttons for the volume up down and the other button further down. They have a nice firm "clicky" feel to them when pushed. The volume buttons even have small rubber nubs on each end so you can distinguish this button from the other button on the side of the phone.

Pieces two and three consist of a plastic ring that snaps on around the display to protect the display from any potential bump on the edges. It won't protect the display section itself from any direct impact. Piece three is where the screen cover comes in. This piece has a peel off cover on both sides. The kit also comes with a small plastic Otter piece to push air bubbles out from under the cover. I found it very easy to install and had virtually no bubbles to worry about after I used their small dry included cloth to clean the display thoroughly prior to installation. Once the cover is installed perfectly you peel the outer covering off and it looks and feels great.

The display slides up and down perfectly, no parts of the case are in the way. The ring that snaps on the display is not too thick to impede any of the touch screen areas or buttons and is not in the way at all.

There is NO BELT CLIP or holster with this case. It is meant to throw into a pocket, purse, etc.

TIP : When installing the ring on the display look for the small notch for the microphone so you install it correctly. I don't know if it would even fit on "wrong" but it wasn't very easy to understand in the directions so the notch makes it obvious.

I might try to get some actual pics up here in a bit, but I must admit, it is a great case. Everyone wondered how Otterbox would actually pull off making a case for the droid, and I think they did a fabulous job. I hope they make a holder for it soon, I'm not really a fan of sticking the phone in my pocket, but it might be the best thing for me, since I tend to take it off my belt and have a bad habit of leaving it every now and then. I did not use the screen protector, as I have the invisibleShield on the front of my droid, and I think it's working great for me so far. Any other questions, feel free to ask.
