So I bought my first app. Cost was $1.99. My account shows $1.99 from Google, then another for $1 from Google. What gives? Did I miss something in the fine print??

When did you buy it? Typically, vendors will charge a $1 temp fee to the credit card to ensure that it works. This fee is returned once all transactions are complete.

Give it two days or so, if that's what it is, it should go away.

You'll notice this charge when using it at some retail vendors, such as at the gas station. It's a common practice, and you probably never noticed it because it goes away before your bill comes out.

^ npark says it best. If it was a debit card, most vendors will take out a temp $1 hold and return it when everything is clear.

Why don't they just charge the full amount and move on?

the same thing happened to me.

as the O/P stated, it was his/her first app purchased. that means GoogleCheckout was pinging the bank to see if the account was valid--and therefore a $1.00 tempt amount was charged. like everyone else stated, it's normal for debit purchases to do this (gas stations, in particular).

in the future--this won't happen because the account will already have been established, as a valid account, by Google. it happened once to me (authorizing the account) and hasn't happened since.
