That happened to an HTC One X I had on my account and it turned out bad. It ended up getting burn marks on the back and it wouldn't turn on at times. I would take it to ta store when it over heats.

Well, my s3 gets a little warm when it's charging and a little hot while using it while charging but dont worry its normal. It shouldnt get very hot tho. Even my bro's iphone 4s gets warm while charging. Probably just the way it is

You pay a premium for a premium device, if you feel for any reason that it is not running 100% as it should, please, return it. There is no reason why you shouldn't get what you pay for :)

Do a factory reset to see if your problem is fixed. If not, take it back.

so, after one month of having this phone its still extremely hot when i am talking to the phone for 3 mins. i cant put the phone in my ear anymore. i dont have games, music on my phone. gps is off and all the smart and air thing.
i called ATT for replacement but they dont want to replace it. i got it on june13. they will just send me a battery and thats it. is it really the battery?

I think (but not sure). It's the chipset.
Have u updated the firmware ?

Updates:
ATT send me a brand new phone last week and it doesnt get hot at all. the phone is faster than the old one. Doesnt lag at camera and album/gallery. the only problem is the speaker is broken. but overall based on my previous posts about the problem on my s4 before, everything is fine now.
