Overheating / Battery drain on 2G data

I seem to have narrowed down my overheating issue to when it's connected to mobile data over 2G.

The first half of the chart shows the phone on 2G and the 2nd half on 3G... The difference is pretty clear.

Any idea what might be causing this, or am I looking at the major ball ache of returning it?

Have you measured the strengths of the two signal types?

Just the opposite of what you'd expect, the processor working harder with the 2G signal. The thing makes no sense. Could it be a duff SIM? Could it be that the device is not optimised for the frequency used by the 2G signal?

I don't know how I'd go about testing the 2nd thing, I'll borrow a phone to try out my SIM though.

I took it back and swapped it for a new one. Problem solved... The battery seems to be consistently about 15 degrees cooler than on my old one.
