Im still adjusting to my s4. Last droid was a razr m (lasted 3 months and prior to that was an iPhone 4)

Ive had my s4 for about 9 days and iv3 noticed it getting very hot like through my otterbox hot 102 and yesterday it got up to 105.6 I got worried. I ccalled Verizon and they said thats way to hot and are having me take it in to have it replaced with a new phone

Mind you this is with all apps closed not on charger and not being used.

Wondering whats conserdered normal operating temperature for this phone?

Not sure what would be considered normal operating temperature but its nice to hear Verizon is replacing the device for you before something goes wrong. Most devices usually have a safety cut off that will shut the device down before damage occurs.

Could be battery causing the overheating or something else hardware related. I wonder if the Outterbox could even have a little of something to do with this?

I have an S3 and normal operating temp for me is between 90? - 105?. I start to worry when it gets 118? or above, and that's after several hours (6-8 hrs.) of playing music. So I think you are ok.

Have you update the firmware ? I think the software update fix this problem.

Well I followed verizons advice and got another device. Got home and after like 3 hours needed charge put it on charge and 20 mins later grabbed it check something and it was really hot checked the temp amd it was 104.7 I called verizon very upset and they said once again swap it out annoyed I called samsung and they said even on charge the phone should not be getting above 102 unless im actually outside and its hot. Im so annoyed at this point. Im thinking of going back to apple I have prett6 much today and tomorrow ti make up my mind. But 105 is way to hot for me to handle a phone it hurts my ear to talk on and I don5 pay for a phone I can't use. Any more insight?

Happens to apple devices too.
