P3Droid Posts His Own Review

The Nexus S was the worst with its glossy plastic.

Glossy plastic has less tensil strength than plastic in general, as the plastic is actually thinner to make room for the gloss coat. Not to mention slipperyness and fingerprints. If that really was a design phase, it was a bad one for build quality.

tensile strength- noun
: the greatest longitudinal stress a substance can bear without tearing apart

Tensile strength - Definition and More from the Free Merriam-Webster Dictionary

You heard it here first guys. Don't play of tug-of-war with your Nexus devices (especially the S). It may break! Please keep all tug-of-war related activities to the iPhone please.

LOL!!! I'd like to quote a famous politician (incorrectly).

"There's a saying in Texas, maybe you have the same saying in Tennessee. Trolls...can't live with 'em...can't live...well...you just can't live with 'em. [insert goofy G Dubya laugh]"

People make too many excuses for mediocrity.

You made it clear this phone is not up to your standards and is not for you. Everyone gets that you don't like it or want it. No need for all the negative comments based on your personal preference. Hopefully you find a device that is more for you.

Some people have way too much time. I just can't fit posting in forums for a phone that I actually am going to buy and posting negative comments in forums for phones that I don't like into my day. If I did, I would be all over the iPhone forums.

Even if I had time I wouldn't post on other forums about phones I have no interest in purchasing. People love iPhones. There's nothing wrong with that. To each their own.

I have never gotten the hate for plastic as material plastics are too diverse a category to paint with broad strokes like that. While metals (at least the ones we use for building things) have a very narrow range of properties so you can have a good idea of how they will perform just from knowing that it is metal. Plastics on the other hand can be engineered to have any combination of properties that is desired. Sure using generic hard plastics like polycarbonates kind of sucks, but using a purpose-built plastic, one that was designed to have the desired properties for a specific application, will be better than metal. In material selection there are always trade-offs, but by designing a material for a specific purpose can minimize these trade-offs.

Tensile strength is actually a very important material property than merely pulling, all stresses a material undergoes can be broken down into a combination of tensile/compressive stress and shear stress, of course there are millions of types of plastics with a wide range of tensile strengths so unless you have the materials data sheet for that specific type of plastic used, you can't say how good or bad the tensile strength is "glossy plastic" is entirely useless when determining material quality

Agree 100%. It's also just a matter of personal preference sometimes. For example, I had the iPhone 3GS, now I have the 4S. I've found that I really prefer the plastic backed 3GS to the 4S for comfort in the hand. I have realized I like the curved, plastic design. One of many reasons I'm switching to the GN.

I agree with you 100%. I realized recently that no matter what I said, I would never be able to convince an iPhone user to switch. They are tied to iTunes and would lose money by switching. The music could be transcoded to be used on other hardware, but the apps will never transfer. I just like correcting them when they say that Apple came up with the idea for some of the features in iOS5.

That's kind of the problem for me at this point. This phone is all about ICS. I don't care about unlocking the phone with my face. I don't care about panorama or no shutter lag. I think about this phone and I think about about the phones 4-6 months from now that will be running ICS and have better LTE radios and batteries and all of a sudden I'm not that excited. Not to mention that there's not even a release date. I'm just starting to lose the "Wow!" factor for this phone.

You'll get that wow factor back when you have the phone in your hands and realize you have the only phone with ics, whether it's for a month or a year it's going to be sweet, sweet, exclusiveness. Plus the developer community for the nexus should be very active and well supported.

Yeah boxed and shipped with 1850.

Nobody seems to note that p3's devices are not even retail. They are test units and if they are using 1750maH, they are old test units at that.

latest reports from those accessory lists show indeed that it is 1850.

Actually no it isn't. The nexus s already has a port as do a host of other devices. Once source code drops it may be the only one with true ics for a few days at most.

It'll take a lot more work to get it working on other devices than it did the Nexus S. If you're thinking it'll only take a few days, you're going to end up disappointed.

well they already have ports on phones like the thunderbolt and others, once they get the ics source code it won't take that long.

The Thunderbolt port isn't even close to being usable last I checked. Just because they're working on it, doesn't mean it'll be an easy task even with source.
