P3Droid's Cat is out of the BAG!

like i said before, you folks are free to believe whatever you want.
I'm not fighting for anything other than freedom to use my legal device however i choose.

My opinion is that this is a lot of speculation and people are getting scared over nothing.

Out of curiosity I was wondering if anyone noticed that the GB Blur has a feature that shares information from your device automatically with Yahoo? As soon as I set up my emails I got emails to my accounts stating "Success! You have shared your Yahoo! Information".....

Do anyone know what this is all about, I didn't request to share anything, I realized you can log into your account and delete the Motoblur share option but if I delete account and setup the account on device again it will sign me up again to all my Yahoo accounts. This isnt cool.

Paranoia is a thought process believed to be heavily influenced by anxiety or fear, often to the point of irrationality and delusion. Paranoid thinking typically includes persecutory beliefs concerning a perceived threat towards oneself. Historically, this characterization was used to describe any delusional state.

Funny. I used Titanium Pro to freeze some apps and I noticed that when I freeze anything with the word yahoo I can't open my contacts.

Maybe Google will start their own cell service and allow Android users to actually make the most with their phones. #WishfulThinking

The Xoom is unlockable because it is considered a developer device.

This is industry-wide and covers multiple carriers -- people won't have many, if any, places to choose if they want to spend money on hardware that is open.

And it may not be illegal to root your phone, but depending on what is said in the contract (don't know, haven't checked), they may not have to provide you any service.

If they do that they will have to issue refunds (forget the term, but selling something then termination of service when comsumers are sold said device expecting service is some sort of consumer fraud) worse case, they drop me, no ETF and interruption of my purchase and warranty would require Verizon to put me in the same financial state before my contract. Contracts can never succeed law, and rooting is legal. I don't see the worry, and frankly, I would walk into Verizon and let them look at my X running GB. I bet they have to let me walk out with it connected to service:-) sure, warranty would be void. Quit worrying fellas.

i'm not sure the extent of this.. but found it interesting

@droid_life wish you had not jumped on that buzz, half his article is right, other half is very wrong.

...and now the TBH app has been removed from the market for violating two rules:

1. Create unpredictable network usage that has an adverse impact on a user's service charges or a Authorized Carrier's network.
2. Knowingly violate an Authorized Carrier's terms of service for allowed usage.

I think the point some are missing is yes root is OK and is legal. This is all about rooted users being able to get free tether. Yes we pay for unlimited but they offer that as a paid add on and want to be paid for it. I think its silly and all this should go away if they come out with no unlimited data plans. Problem solved! Root users using tether would still eat up the data and pay if they go over the cap they pay for. I love tether and unlimited data but you need to see where they are coming from. In the business to make money on services that root users with unlimited data are taking from them. If they did away with the unlimited data like they say we could still tether and pay for the data we use. Drop the fee they have for the service since your now paying for a chunk of data a month. Use it how you want and enjoy.

I have thought long and hard about this, and tried to put myself in the non rooted, wifi tether paying customers shoes. I used to think it was OK, and everyone did it. I did it, not that I ever used it much, but I did use free tether apps.

I am not going to be like the high mighty holy rollers calling people that use google's tether apps in the market to get free tether thieves. That is wrong, it is rude, and you may as well call google the grand master thief, and thank them by buying your next device that supports such an open ecosystem (not for long huh?) However, it is wrong. Manipulating the .bat mode of the radio to get free tether is a violation of TOS. That is it. When you cut the tag off your mattress back in the day, same thing, you violated some stupid law, and that didn't make you a criminal, and I bet that most people that tether, do so because it is so easy to get for free. No body is going out of their way to do it.

With that said, it is wrong, and I won't use, or support it. It is getting the Android community in hot watter with the carriers, and making it more difficult for us that JUST want to root to customize, to pay the price. I am disgusted with it actually, it isn't fair to ROOT users that some people abuse the TOS by violating their contracts. I am tired of seeing the threads and comments about how people are freaking out about loosing the ability to hack data from VZW. If you can't afford the hot-spot or the net, go to the library and quit pissing off big red. But I don't think you are a thief, just in an environment where stealing data is as easy as pie, and google has certainly looked the other way.

I love GB, and the Bionic is going to be nice for the 99% other of us that don't root. I won't use GB anymore because I can't use the hotspot app safely while paying the 20. I don't want a leaked OS that violates TOS. I am going back, and SBFing for now. I am taking a break from hacking/rooting because frankly, I have done all there is to do to my X and I am getting bored again.

I am letting my contract expire this summer, and whatever carrier has the best open nexus phone, I will happily buy there. I am not sure why P3Droid dropped this, but his article has at the very least sparked a roar in the community, and got us talking about it right? I think that article helps him sleep better too, as I am sure 90% of the people running GB would point the finger at him (when their service provider does confront them) when it was their own finger on the tether app, the whole time.

Yea looks like his little rant pissed some people off at google/moto/verizon. Someone looked into the app now and killed it from the market.
