I turned off my WiFi and updated the apps on cellular n/w and that worked for me!

Wow. Turning off wifi so cellular network is used worked. How strange. I can't think of a technical reason for why that would make a difference.

Anyone have a theory?

I can confirm have same issue, on wifi everything is invalid package, but if I turn off wifi installs fine

reset phone many time, tried the cache thing, nothing seems to work

This really worked! Mine wouldn't update either. They all said 'package file invalid'. I tried what you said and turned off my wifi and they all updated successfully!! Thanks!! I will remember that from now on. I just hope it doesn't continue to do that.

Probably because there is a problem with the wifi? But the installation has nothing to do with the connection.

I have a app that when download wont install "Missed Call / SMS Alert" from the play store

I tried disabling all blocking from opendns, did not help

tried changing dns to Google's 8.8.8.8, still no go

disabled wireless and then installed without issue over Verizon network

can uninstall this app and try again and is repeatable issue

is not effecting all app installs

for instance the app I used to verify dns I was using "Network Info II" installs fine over wifi

I have a Note 2, I tried that, didn't work. It seems to be working over LTE though.

This is bug that Google apparently can't fix. I elected to fix the problem permanently by purchasing an Iphone. Haven't had the problem since.

This is happening on my Nexus 7 and just started today. Google books, NFL mobile, Jetpack joyride, and Slot machine game. I have tried to clear the cache but if I have to factory restore I am going to be pissed.

Same thing here I can't even re download Netflix, Google books, earlier vine was doing it but that update tonight. I don't know what the hell is going on with Google.

Some of mine updated and then 5 didn't, which I got the package file invalid error. I was running on 4G at the time and I read some had to turn their wifi off and then it worked. I just did the opposite, I turned on my wifi and then they all downloaded fine.

Tried this and that doesnt even work. Did a restore and some apps will download but some wont. Whats really frustrating is some of the apps were paid for and i guess i am sol.

Now that you did a restore did you try the VPN because it worked on my nexus 7 even worked on my sons phone which has gingerbread on it and wasnt getting updates either

Google is obviously having server issues! It would be nice if they said something. I couldn't even get them to call me now the other day got a callback right away now you ask for a call and it does nothing.
