Palm Pre Guy who wants to get an Evo but isnt too sure..Help needed.

For me it's the fact that Epocrates is dumping webOS that's likely to cause me to switch. Tired of not having the apps I need.

Gonna wait until after CES and see what's coming down the pike, but right now it's between the Epic and EVO, leaning a bit toward the Epic right now.

I was thinking of the epic as well, but after spending hours and hours messing with it and the EVO in the store, I found that I kinda hated the epic. Mostly the keyboard. Landscape sliders are soo not for me. Also, the home, back, etc. Buttons didn't seem very responsive. Even when I play with my buddies epic now and again they still seem to not register a lot of presses.

Anyway, definitely spend time checking them both out. I did, and even though I was originally set on the epic, I found that after using both for a while, I preferred the EVO.

Was going back and forth on the Evo and Epic myself. Finally decided that the virtual keyboard on the Evo was fine and the build quality and updates on Evo much better, IMO. I also noticed the buttons on the Epic didnt always seem to want to work on first hit.

But what finally made me decide was the deal at Radio Shack $99 for the Evo and a free BT headset, that was too good to pass up.

I also took advantage of the Radio Shack promotion. Traded in an old Palm Treo and got the Evo yesterday. Still not sure about giving up my Pre. I did like it and had not had any trouble with the hardware, but the $99 Evo was too hard to pass up. I'm going to call it an early birthday present.

Happy New Year to everyone.
Welcome to Android Central.... and to a better forum.
Oh, but didn't you know? The Pre will be getting Flash in the "coming months" ! !

;)
Webos users seem to be waiting a very long time for flash. I wonder how it will look on such a small screen. Lol.

I'm going to keep my Pre for a 'just in case' backup phone, with one battery and charger. I'll send the Touchstone, other batteries and accessories to my son for his Pre.

I thought there was no way I could use a landscape slider based on messing around with my daughter's Samsung Intercept. But when I tried an Epic, I found the keyboard quite good and very usable, even for someone who is used to a portrait keyboard like on the Treo, BlackBerry, and Pre. (The Intercept has an exceptionally crappy keyboard).

When the Evo Shift becomes available, I will do some serious comparison between it and the Epic.

If I replace my Pre, will probably keep it as well and use it with wi-fi.

So far for me this device is so great,I have not even thought about rooting.

$99 deal still on thru 1/1

I went into a Radioshack tonight in my area and they had a sign advertising the $99 deal with the trade-in of ANY working cell phone, good through Jan 1. The link provided by OP still seems to be valid as well. I'm currently a Pre owner and seriously considering taking the plunge - it's good to see so many others go pre > evo and live to tell about it.

I ordered online, so didn't need a trade-in.

It's good to see the Precentral people here! I had the original launch day Pre and bailed for the launch day EVO. I still read over at the PC forums but it's all doom and gloom! Welcome to the party at AC! :)

I still use PreCentral, I am Buttercup, after all, however, the Pre is not worth keeping!

The Evo is awesome.

@ coogrrr94....Two thumbs up! I couldn't have said any better.

Palm pre >> cute
EVO >> awesome + beautiful

"Dont hate me cause I'm beautiful"

I've owned a LOT of cell phones over the years, everything from the old " brick " phones, then to the " Startac, " and on and on including Blackberry, and this is by far the BEST phone I have ever had the pleasure of owning. It's basically a computer, mp3 player, camcorder, camera, pda, with the inclusion of a phone. Wouldn't trade it for anything!
