I have recently move from a palm pre to the LG, and I have a couple of touchstones that are just collecting dust. I have seen several people who have modded their android phones so they will allow hands free charging and I want to do the same.

I have completed the simple part of the swap, that is placing the induction charging unit in the back of my optimus, no I need to hard wire it in somehow.

My question is about the internals, I need to know where to attach the leads from the induction unit to get the power into my battery. They cannot be simply attached to the battery because the induction coil would draw power constantly.

correct, an induction coil would, however, if i'm not mistaken, there is also a bridge rectifier attached to the coil which makes the ac into dc. This would also block the induction coil from getting power from the battery (if you have a meter, try checking for ohms from the leads the palm pre has on the side of the battery to the + and - of the battery that actually touch the phone. My bet is that it touches directly. (And might want to check the evo mod that was posted on precentral's forums (and probably the forums here).

Also... please post pictures. I too am a convert from a palm pre with a spare touchstone sitting around lol.

If you ever get this working I would be forever grateful. I hate having to grab my charger and plug it in between work and home. Touchstone would be great.

Hats off to you guys trying to work this out. I get nervous seeing people messing around with batteries. Please post pics if you can.

The voltage rectifier is attached to the coil and came off the pre's battery cover along with the coil. Where I am running into trouble is with getting the juice from the voltage rectifier to the battery.

I managed to get the phone apart and identify where I need to attach the leads from the voltage rectifier, but I am afraid that my soldering skills are not up to the challenge. So I am at a standstill until I find someone with better tools or more soldering skills to attach the wires from the coil to the usb power supply terminal.

I will be sure to include pictures when I manage to get it done.

The inductive charger doesn't fit under the case.
Maaaybe if you carve it out but I doubt it. Gonna need to modify the case more than that.

If you guys have seen the main page, check this out:

I don't like the size, but this would give us the internals on the phone, so we might be able to just plug-and-play with the touchstone. The picture has an lg vortex, which is verizon's version of the optimus, so it would probably work just fine with our phones.

I saw that today and got excited. True, it's not as small as a Touchstone puck, but it's not so big that you can't toss it into a bag if you're traveling or squeeze onto the top of a desk. I hope the pricing will be reasonable.
