Panda says to wait?

What I'm planning on doing is going ahead and getting the Thunderbolt on a 2 year contract and then since I'm the account owner, I'm going to transfer my mom's upgrade to my line and give my mom the Thunderbolt because she doesn't use a whole lot of data, but is starting to get into browsing on her phone more so the tiered data for her should be fine. Her upgrade comes in October, but I may still hold onto the Thunderbolt for a full year.
Same. In one year or one and a half years when some solid quad-core + 3D devices come out I'll upgrade with my mother's upgrade (she almost never uses her LG eNV3, let alone cares for getting a new phone) and give my dad the T-Bolt (he barely uses his phone for data as is).

When I do upgrade next year, though, I'll be sure to do a one-year contract so I don't get locked to a device for two long years anymore.

I don't dissagree! Might jump on the TB and if the battery life is as bad I expect it to be, I will return it and pay the restocking fee. Won't keep it because having a phone with a dead battery isn't what I am looking for. Had that for nearly a year with the Dinc.

I agree with you, I'm concerned about battery too. But I've had an upgrade available since 1/30 and I'm trying out the Tbolt since 4G will cost the same as 3G on my DX. I will get Bionic when it's relased, either by selling Tbolt (maybe DX too) or waiting till my 2 upgrades in June. Depends on how battery does on HTC, or how much better Bionic is.

The poem said several weeks. Several can mean different things, but it's definitely longer than a few.

Yes, but his prior poem (which was spot on with the Thunderbolt) pins it after passover. That's more than a few, but could be defined as several. In effect, it's about 6 weeks.

Bionic in a few weeks would be nice.

You have to remember, a few weeks in our time, equates to a few months in Verizon time. They work on a corporate time schedule and it is very different from what you and I see in our daily lives. The bionic will not, I repeat, not be out in a few of our weeks. Take that to the bank.

He has always said get the Bolt on a 1yr contract b/c by next year you will have dual-core goodness -- both Qualcomm and nVidia -- on a lot more LTE phones.

Over my dead body! I've waited for the Bolt since it was know as the Inc HD. I've owned 2 moto devices and overall I like HTC alot better. The Bionic does look enticing dont get me wrong, but blur kills it for me.

TBN for Life!

There is always something else coming out. If you wait for it, you will never have anything. By the time the Bionic comes out, the awesome summer phones are just going to be "weeks" away, and you will want to wait. It never ends. Get something now, and then if something comes out that is simply irresistible, sell what you have and get something else.

Or if you have a family share plan, do like Mapex and I are planning on doing. :D

I'm getting the TB. Then I'm never waiting for a new phone ever again!

You shouldn't ever wait for a new phone (assuming you do one-year contracts). The only reasons to wait for the T-Bolt are related to its being the first VZW LTE device and the flagship VZW HTC device (for the year possibly) as well as the fact that it was supposed to release four weeks ago. If there were other great LTE phones available in the last four weeks, this device would not have been worth waiting for because it would mean you would have to wait four extra weeks next February when an awesome quad-core device demonstrated at CES 2012 will be made available.

Hahaha, no.

I don't really care if Verizon is getting a stock android lte device later this year, I have an effing blackberry storm and I'm not waiting anymore, and by the time this contract is up, I'll be able to get a better phone than what panda is claiming we should wait for.

It is always nice to wait because you will always get something cheaper and faster! ...But, I need a new phone (with Mobile Hotspot) in advance of a trip i have to take. I am not sure the next phone will grandfather the unlimited data. The Thunderbolt has much more storage included. I am not sure that dual core will buy me much more than bragging rights in the next 6 mo or so. did I say I am rockin a Storm and really need a new phone! The bionic is bogger and lighter and has a bigger battery - I am guessing the Thunderbolt is built more solidly. Kickstand and stereo speakers, need i say more. And... I can get it tomorrow!

Exactly.

Motorola's UI and software is buggy and atrocious.

Dual-core CPU and bigger battery, sure. But less RAM, lower Quadrant scores, less storage, and no Sense... I can't bring myself to wait for that kind of device.

TB.

I don't believe the mere fact of having a dual core processor is gonna be discernible at all. Especially not in the next year or so of smartphone releases. It will be a long time before the integration, hardware and software development begins to take advantage of a dual core processor. Before that it's just more overhead.

Add to that the simple fact that a fair amount of memory is consumed by simply supporting the second core - even when it isn't doing anything. Same thing on PCs.

Additionally, the more cores the more the diminishing returns. IT folks learned a long time ago that quad processors were only marginally faster than single and/or dual cores. (i.e. Compared to a single core, the 2nd core might get you a 20 percent increase in performance, but the 3rd will only get you 25 and the forth mayonly get you 27 percent). It is certainly not a linear relationship.

I'm psyched for the TBolt. Not even worried the slightest about all this dual core nonsense.

P.S. Oh yeah... also, I love HTC Sense and hate Blur! :)
