Pandora doesn't mute on KitKat

When I hit the mic button except in Google now. I use speech-to-text a ton on my phone and hadn't noticed this on 4.3. anyone else?

Other apps with sound such as play music also do not mute when I try to compose a message using the microphone. This really really sucks because I use speech to text many times a day

Furthermore, when I go to Google now there is about a 3 second delay which didn't used to be there on the previous OS and I keep speaking before Google now is ready to listen

I would gladly give up any benefit from kit kat to get 4.3 which always muted sounds when I do speech-to-text. Comprehensive software testing always seem to get the short shrift. sigh
