Sony and it's phone pivot

The Xperia series technically exists as a showcase of Sony's phone division. However, despite some features like SD card and 3.5 mm jack at that price point; they rarely sell well. Sony didn't help it's case by pricing them exorbitantly and doing poorly in terms of OS upgrades [though they have improved on that margin].

However, sometimes I can't help but think that Sony isn't interested much in it's phone line-up. A recent Xperia release didn't make it to US (and neither to my native country India). Juxtapose this with their photography division or wireless buds which are quite popular and sold around the world. Will Sony eventually stop making phones and Xperia [as a brand] go the same way as the HTC?

It seems that Sony has always been like this about their phones, at least in the US market. Never much fanfare or marketing -- they're just ... there. I think they tended to focus a lot more on the Japanese market, and maybe 10 years ago I recall seeing tons of Sony phones in people's hands there. But in recent years, it seems that Sony phones have dropped off in popularity significantly in Japan, with many more iPhones, Galaxy phones, and even Pixels in obvious use.

I used Sony smartphones for a long time. My first smartphone was the Sony Ericsson Arc S. It was the last model with Ericsson in the name. I like Sony phones because the OS is close to pure Android with very little bloat. What changed in the last years was the range of models Sony put on offer. Unfortunately Sony decided to drop some features that were well loved like the Music MP3 app or the Sony gallery app. I had feeling that Sony just don't care much anymore about their phones anymore
