Password or screen pattern

How do I setup the phone to require a screen pattern I must swipe each time the phone times out or boots up. I do not require encryption.

It should be in the settings, possibly under security, or even it's own lock screen category. You can choose to do a pin, or a pattern, but it will ask you to provide both twice as verification.

I only see that option if I choose to encrypt data.

By the way I must say I really like this phone. I had the HTC Thunderbolt before and there is no comparison. I am just missing the auto correct feature when typing.
