Hi to the community,

My wife opened a pdf file from a phishing email thinking it was legit from her Android phone, a Samsung S24.

What's done is done, and she won't do it again (until next time).

In the meantime, we disconnected the phone from our home Wifi.

But I'm now looking at ways to scan the Android device for malware, virus and whatnot making sure it's not infected and we can keep on using it safely.

Any suggestions from the community would be greatly appreciated.

Malwarebytes is generally regarded as one of the best.

If it truly was a PDF file, then I doubt anything bad would have happened to the phone. It may have been part of the phishing campaign to lure the user into reading the PDF and scaring them into doing something from that. A lot of times, these phishing campaigns are fake "invoices" that try to persuade the victim into paying something. Do you or your wife recall seeing an actual PDF open?
