Exactly. The pebble round looks nice, but not 250$ nice. A smartwatch in my opinion should allow the distractions of a smartphone to get out of the way. I could leave my phone in a bag while I'm out with friends or spending time with family and not have to worry about missing an important call or notification. I have a tendency to miss those sort of messages since I (a) am not staring at my phone all day (b) have the ringer/vibrations turned off (I find it weird if everyone knows when I get a message -- but maybe that's just me) and (c) don't like carrying my around phone in my hand and women's pockets just don't cut it. I like the idea of not being restricted by my phone all the time, while also being able to stay connected.
My favourite smartwatch on the market right now would have to be the Vector Luna. Always on display, discreet gesture controlled notifications, looks like a regular watch, and an awesome 30-day battery life. For me, I think it would be great to be able to take calls and use voice dictation for texts straight through the watch too rather than having to take your phone out. But it's too big for me (44mm) and too expensive for what it does (starts at 350$ I believe). The gear s2 is also a tempting option, but again, it's on the large side and starts at 400$.
