They explained why they did it. And I'm sure Kickstarter asked them to come back and do it there just to show the power of the site since they're pretty much the poster child. They're at over $7M now, with 30 days to go.

I was actually completely caught off guard by their return to Kickstarter myself as well.... for some reason, I just never thought they would take that option. As you mentioned, they already have an established brand, company and user base, I simply assumed they would sell through their web site and use social marketing / the media to get the word out. Save the money and maximize profits by foregoing the commission Amazon / Kickstarter is going to take and be more in control of the whole process.

Maybe they want to take their crown back as the most funded kickstarter campaign? Hehe... J/K (sort of) .
