Penalized for preordering the RAZR

Spoke with two different reps while I was on the phone with Verizon earlier. One said I'll have it by the 10th, the other said it will ship on the 10th. Guess I'll find out which one was right soon enough. And I'd like to echo the comment that as long as I have the phone within launch week, I'll be alright.

No offense but this whole thread is a little premature. Also the title is a little misleading. You haven't been penalized for pre-ordering. I don't know who told you it was better to pre-order versus going in store on release day because you'll get it earlier. That's not true. The Verizon rep is right. It just means you're guaranteed a phone, period, in the event you're local Verizon store(s) sell out on release day. It's that simple. Don't expect anything special, or the phone to land on you're doorstep 2 days early.

Sorry you were mislead or misunderstood. I'm getting the Razr, but I don't see a need to pre-order. I'll go to the store on release day, or even after and I'm not worried about getting a phone. Heck I went to my local store on release day for my OG Droid at Noon and they still had plenty. The store wasn't swamped at all, and look how big of a release that phone was! Unless you live in a huge metropolis you should be fine.

I too would like to get my pre-ordered phone on or especially before Nov. 10th. It would be in Verizon's favor to get some of these out to the pre-order crowd a little early just for some word of mouth build-up for the brick and mortar stores release.

I don't understand why this has to be a confusing situation where different Verizon reps are giving different information. This is a phone, not a matter of National Security. I don't think a competing company is going to get this 5 days early, steal its "secrets" and have a phone out that trumps the RAZR before the 10th.

Is there nobody at Android Central that can reach out to someone other than rank and file sales associates at Verizon for a definitive answer?

Historically, I seem to remember that pre-orders have been received either on the day of the "launch" or even the day before sometimes. I would be surprised if the phone isn't scheduled to ship ahead of launch-date with intended arrival on 11/10.

It's not "the end of the world" if it doesn't get to me on 11/10, but I would be a bit disappointed like a lot of you.

In my experience, the VZW sales reps don't know a lot about the intricate details of ship dates and other, deep technical functionality. Thus the widely varying responses people are getting.
