Pentile screen.

OK, don't cringe.
This is not another thread knocking the pentile screen!

I am sure many people out there are just like me and have been researching the Bionic on this forum and elsewhere and the main negative thing that keeps popping up is the pentile screen and how it pixelates. Well, I was very concerned about this. I don't want a pixelated screen even if it does use less power and look good in direct sunlight. I love the screen on my OG Droid and certainly didn't want to upgrade to something worse.

Well, I went to the Verizon store today to check out the X2 (pentile) and the Charge (amoled) screens to see how bad it really was. WOW!!! Are the people knocking this screen looking at the same phone I am??? The screen on the X2 in gorgeous! Yeah, I can see tiny pixels in the tiny battery icon in the tray. I can also see pixels in every other phone there. Mainly I was worried about small text as I had read that it didn't look good on the pentile screen. Well, it certainly looks good to me and certainly as good as on my OG Droid. I actually preferred the X2 screen to the Charge's screen. I still think the iPhone4 has the best looking display, but man, that thing is PUNY compared to the X2 and the Bionic! Sometimes size does matter.

Anyway, if you were like me and are concerned about the negative comments about the pentile screen, fear not. It is a big, beautiful, bright screen that can be seen in direct sunlight and uses less power than other technologies. Win,win,win!

Of course the best way to decide is to go look for yourself. I, for one, was quite impressed with this screen.

Oh, and the couple of hands on reviews even say the the Bionic and an improved screen over the X2, so there you go.

I used to have at&t and the screen on the atrix was very nice when i checked it out. If the Bionic's is the same/better, i think it is pretty sweet.

The bionic screen doesn't look like the d3 screen at all, it looks almost better than a super amoled screen

If that's true, I will probably giggle the entire first day of (eventually) acquiring this phone. It has EVERYTHING!

I wouldn't sweat it too much. It depends on how you're viewing the forum. Search results are better when viewing the full version of the forum in a web browser. As for me, I use Tapatalk. Everything loads faster, but the search results aren't all that great.

As for the pentile screen, I've learned a lot about it in the past few days. I hadn't really heard about it much prior to that.
Probably because I wasn't researching Motorola phones at the time.

I think the criticism is a little overblown, but I do also think it bothers some people more than others. I went from a Charge to the X2, and it was jarring at first, but I'm used to it now.

Text, for the most part, is clear and smooth. The only time that it isn't is when the text is a bright color or encased in a brightly colored background. Those cases are few and far in between though, so its not bad by any means.

Also, like others said, the Bionic apparently has an improved version of this screen, much like the Photon.

Oh, and just to add some fuel to the 'its different' fire: comparing the video BWorley shot of quadrant to my X2, the screen on the bionic is definitely different. Doesn't look as jagged. Maybe a different implementation of pentile?
