Pentile vs. Super AMOLED Plus Discussion

Haha sorry I'm not intentionally trying to be elusive. There's just so many variables that come into play when selecting a smartphone that its almost impossible to say something is better than another. Much of it boils down to personal taste and valued features.

But, with the Epic 4G Touch, your going to get a fast device with a large, great looking screen that will do everything you described above and more, and do it really really well for at least the next year and probably well beyond. I think it will be hard to be disappointed with this device if that's what you're looking for. Cheers!

I hope it's true, Jay.

Yeah you can say I am coming from Blackberry and new to android phone. So what is skin? Tip? Advice?

The Epic 4G Touch will be my first Android phone too. A Skin is what the manufacture puts on top of Google's Android to customize it to their tastes. Samsung has TouchWiz. HTC has Sense. Motorola has Motoblur.

I've heard bad things about MotoBlur, but i think the Photon scales it way back. Lots of ppl say TouchWiz and Sense have improved alot, but the only HTC phone on Sprint that i would even remotely consider is the Evo 3D.

Go read reviews on the Evo 3D and the Photon and see what they have to say about the software.

Assuming you are on Sprint...Evo3D, Photon and Epic 4G Touch are all gonna be pretty damn good phones....so like that other guy said, it is more about personal preference. You can't really go wrong here.

"Best" is a tough word to use right now when it comes to displays. Everyone has their own opinion. But in the Android world, I'd say the majority do prefer the SAMOLED screens to other choices. But remember, Samsung is only producing SAMOLED Plus displays right now at 480x800 resolution. Some will prefer a higher resolution qHD screen for that fact alone. To me, I still think the iPhone's retina display is the top dog, with Samsung's displays coming in second. Again, that's just me.
I gotta tell you.....

I borrowed my daughters iphone 4 for a weekend and really was underwhelmed with one exception...it runs soooooooooo perfectly smooth.

But...the real surprise was how non impressive the screen was. Kinda subdued but sharp and way too small for my eyes.

Hi LS...

I have a Tour which I've used a lot for years and it is now my backup just in case. You will be amazed at the productivity and the speed with which you can accomplish things on Android vs the BB experience.

Having been through several 3D's and Photons I would have to say STAY AWAY.

The 3D had a lousy strength radio with bad signal. It did receive an update which did not bring it up to par with my current EVO 4g. It's earpiece and rear speaker are way to quiet. My hearing sucks, my wife's is superb....with the 3D on her nightstand the alarm on it's loudest setting would not wake her up. Hated the screen as it was sharp but with qHD everything was way to small for me.

Photon....couldn't stand the pentile screen, earpiece and rear speaker were superb, signal strength was superb. Unfortunately, all three I went through dropped calls OR took 20 seconds to begin dialing OR everything became muted ion it's own OR the phone would randomly just shut down completely. They have released an MR5 update and my buddy Alan is still having some of these issues.

My advice...take a chance and go with the Samsung.

So what is skin?
Skin = Theme , manufacture Overlay - Motoburp , HTC Sense etc

Tip?
So you know of an app by the name of Berryweather.
Bellshare built version for Android that puts BB version to shame.
Buy it!

Advice?
Root device load custom roms and enjoy

If this is going to be your first Android device I would compare the skins for at least five minutes. Most will say HTC Sense is best of all and then its a tie between Moto and Samsung. You might also compare the Nexus S 4G as well as that has no skin what so ever. I have always had rooted phones and ran CyanogenMod on all of them. The only thing the skins do in my eyes if set each manufacturer apart. They never added more than they took away.

Back to screen discussion: If you are strictly using these phones as computers and not a phone resolution is out the window in terms of being relevant. It is the technology that is used in the screen that will make the difference because these screens are so small(even 4.5") that you will not really want more on the screen as it makes everything smaller and if you have trouble reading you will strain your eyes that much more. In my own opinion they don't need more resolution they need to get the real estate a true 16:9 or 16:10 so that what you view always takes up the whole screen. I have great vision and once you notice the pentiles problems you can never unsee it. I was so glad to see that a true RGB was being used. The screen is the main part of the phone I stare at everyday and it better look amazing for a few $$$. I wouldn't care if the phone was ugly as sin as long as the screen was bright, crisp, produced true contrast, and produced as close as possible true colors I 'm sold.
