[REVIEW/GUIDE] GS3 vs. GNex for VZW - 7/11/12

Re: [REVIEW/GUIDE] GS3 vs. GNex for VZW - 7/8/12

Well. Due to the review. I have taken pictures of my nexus to post up for sale. I can't keep both. My wife still has a nexus so I'm sure we can trade if I'm not too fond of the S3. Although I'm sure I'll love it.

Can you post screenshots of a few things?
MMS App
Gmail app
Keyboard
Browser.

Thank you. These are some of the things I like to see but never get to until I'm holding the device.

Bounced off of my JellyBelly into your eye.

Sure can. Will get those up soon.

Nice comprehensive review. Only thing I would add is about the screen and the on screen buttons. Not having part of the screen eaten up by the buttons makes a big difference in usable space. I'm glad they moved the buttons off the screen

Was going to sell the gnex but decided will keep both and switch between the two in use.

Getting my S3 tomorrow and was planning to sell it as well and keep using my Nexus. Probably still just sell it and wait for the next Nexus. Seeing as I will never get a subsidized phone from VZW again might as well just sell the S3 for top dollar and sit back. I can always get the S3 later for cheaper.

Re: [REVIEW/GUIDE] GS3 vs. GNex for VZW - 7/8/12

I too went from the GNex to the SIII (which I got on Friday) and I must say that your review is spot on.

The hardware improvements are what sell the SIII for me.
- The SIII is nearly the same size (but noticeably thinner) yet the screen is nicer (and bigger).
- The signal is much more reliable...My wife's RAZR used to be about 20-30 dBm's worse than my GNEX, but so far, the SIII has only been about 5-10 dBm's worse than the RAZR. Best of all, no weird dropped signals even when I have great 4G or 3G reception.
- The battery life is light years better. I was getting about the same life as the reviewer on my GNEX (while using the 2100mAh battery), but as of right now, I have 31% battery left with 11 hours of discharging and 3 & 1/2 hours of "screen-on" time and an hour of Pandora use while I mowed the lawn.
- Everything is already buttery-smooth (without JellyBean). :)

Personally, I will be sticking with the SIII for sure. Although I love the naked ICS experience over the TouchWiz experience, I am surprisingly happy with the Apex Launcher so far. I like how it gives me a fairly clean look and feel while still allowing me to use some of the Samsung TouchWiz stuff as well (such as the lock screen or some of the widgets).

The SIII will only get that much better once it's properly rooted and the dev's have had their chance to bring out the full potential of that hardware.

Post some screenshot as requested of the SMS App, Email App, browser and keyboard.

Thank you! I'm trying to upgrade to the S3 through a loophole. I have a different line eligible and I'm trying to use that upgrade then activate the S3 on my line. Don't wanna lose unlimited data at all.

This was a great review! Thank you for sharing. I will definitely be getting the SIII, but I plan on keeping my Nexus. I can't wait to get the SIII.

Updated the part about transferring music to the device. Its easier since it has an SD card but the phone still uses MTP format which makes it pain to transfer things like Playlists and such. If someone has a way to do this easily please share :).

Updated to talk about the soft keys vs. GS3 keys. Will do a speaker phone test a little bit later today after I do some of my work.

Re: [REVIEW/GUIDE] GS3 vs. GNex for VZW - 7/8/12

I have a gnex and am still in the 14 day window for return. In less than a week I have had the sim card replaced and ended up having the entire phone. It consistently has been weaker than the charge I had, which was a good phone for me until the last ota. I am pretty sure that by the end of the week I will be returning the gnex for a SGIII as long as I keep seeing that the signal strength and call quality is somewhat better.

Re: [REVIEW/GUIDE] GS3 vs. GNex for VZW - 7/8/12

Definitely getting a noticeablely better signal here at work on my S3 over my Galaxy Nexus.
My work location is historically the weakest signal area of any smartphone I have owned :)

Hi,

I am about to order Galaxy S3 and need your help here :)

I returned my Galaxy Nexus 3 months ago as it was constantly loosing signal, Call Drops on Verizon!, and sometimes it keep searching for a signal and gets very hot until the battery drain and it shuts off.

A lot of people used to call me and I didn't get any of the calls, even switching the phone to 3G and turning of the 4G didn't solve the problem as its kept loosing the 3G signal too.

I was getting 5-6 call drops a day and no reception on weak areas, I returned it and got a Droid Razr Maxx and omg never had a single call drop since then as it always gets a signal and switches to 3G, Edge smoothly when 4G signal is not there.

Does the new Galaxy S3 have the same issues? Any Call drops? Does it switch from 4G to 3G or Edge quickly and without any lag? Have you ever noticed that the phone gets hot trying to get a signal to no avail?

I really appreciate your feedback, I am extremely happy with my Razr Maxx but the only thing that I don't like is its screen and really mis the Gnex super screen.

Appreciate your feedback.

Thanks
Ahmad

Sorry to hear about your issues on the Gnex. Sounds like you just got a bad phone but I understand your frustrations.

From what I can tell so far I have not had those same issues with the GS3. Call quality has been better. No issues with data dropping and switching between 3G and 4G has been surprisingly smooth. I haven't had any issues at all with the service as of yet *knock on wood*.

I had the Razr Maxx that I got from a buddy of mine but I quickly sold it. It was a solid phone, loved the battery life but I am not a fan of MotoBlur at all and it took WAY to long to get ICS. I sold it before the update was rolling out. If I had to pick between TouchWiz or MotoBlur I am taking TouchWiz. Besides, the screen on the GS3 is pretty damn awesome
