People with G6 and S8 experience (hands on or through research)

And every Samsung phone I've owned, my wife owned, my kids owned, parents owned, friends owned have NOT ever gotten screen burn in. Don't know what to say, but that's a lot of phones with no burn in
I've also suffered screen burn on my previous Samsung device (Galaxy S6), it certainly does exist.

It really comes down to how you use the phone. Sat Navs seem to be the main culprit as the screen can be stuck on the same image (Notification bar, buttons etc) for hours. Personally I like to use my phone as a Sat Nav so the G6 having an LCD screen is something I welcome. I'm now reluctant to consider a phone with an AMOLED display, although Samsung made that easy by only releasing a curved screen. I guess it's like the saying, "once bitten, twice shy".

It def does -- but there are people with old LG phones that have shown some horrid screen retention as well.. I believe most phones after a good amount of use can have it happen. Also depends on the user. My timeout is 1 minute so my phone never sits on a static image for an extended time.

I'm not saying it doesn't happen, my point was I've had several and I mean several Samsung devices with zero burn in screens, the one I was replying to made it sound like it happens all the time easily. As someone else said, you have to have the screen on for long periods of time with nothing moving. My screen time out is set at 30 seconds. Can it happen under normal usage I suppose possible but unlikely IMO.

I've seen my friends S7 with bad burn in and my daughter's G5 started showing signs of retention within a month...

I have personally never had an oled screen. Just like LCD better but this go around the 2 phones I'm looking at are the V30 and the Pixel XL 2, both presumably with amoled screens.

This bugged me too til I installed an app in the PlayStore calls Screen Notifications by Luke Korth. It wakes the screen for 10 secs (or whatever you set it to) and shows your notifications on the lockscreen pretty much identically as the iPhone does if you're familiar with that. It made a massive difference to my G6.

I still miss my G6, I had an s8 Plus then the G6 then back to regular s8 which I have now. The G6 was tonnes more comfortable to hold, had better call quality, great wide angle camera, better manual camera controls, dark theme, better FPS, double tap to wake,
Things I prefer on the s8 are slightly better rear camera (and faster which is very important if you have young kids or pets to snap), much better front camera, notification led, slightly better AOD thanks to the Amoled screen, Iris scanner, one handed mode, slightly better battery life. I'm sure I've missed a few from both but whatever you choose you'll be happy

Battery life wise that's always subjective i bet some can get better life out of their g6 than others with an s8+ (i'm one of them and i owned an s8+ before) though i thought the g6 had a notification light but guess i wasen't so crazy. But i hate when my screen goes on everytime i get a notification on my s8 i was streaming music and more often than not it would turn on in my pockets and change songs by itself which was annoying af ! But like you said both are good choices people just gotta learn to use what they like the most.

Hmm, i can tell you my overall experience with G6 switched from iOS to android didn't have much money so i bought the G3 was thinking to go back to iPhone but i wanted to give one more chance to Android and LG since i falled in love with it..

So for the G6 the battery life has been great so far with 5-7 SoT with 1 charge ofc depending on the usage of the phone. Fast charging could be better ( by that i mean faster ) it goes from 0-100% for like 1h and 30-40min but im okay with that... And i love the way the G6 isn't overheating during usage and charging unlike for ex. mine G3 which was burning..

So il continue with the display, display is for me pretty great, people find it strange but i don't like amoled and samsung and their touchwiz that's why i didn't even consider in buying the S8/+.. The G6 has a great display the colors are bright and loveable, kinda got used to the 18:9 ratio and it's well nothing special but awesome. The always on, on the other hand well unless you are using it at night or in dark areas, it is pretty pointless during sunny days.. And during the night it's not so bright like on amoled displays but it's okay if you are user like me that has all notification sounds off and misses the led notification.

The camera is pretty good considering we are tallong about phone camera not dslr.. And both main and wide angle have been doing great job for me so far with nice exposure, texture and overall experience and the enhancement in camera app unlike on the older G series phones. Front camera on the other hand well if you are a selfie maniac i should suggest you skip the G6, front camera is well 6/10 from me with not so great quality and texture of the photos, but hey i don't care about it. So no big deal for me 😜

Fingerprint scanner is good, but not as fast as on the other devices in the current flagship series, my brother has Honor 8, and his fingerprint sensor unlocks the phone instantly you put your finger on it but again something that doesn't bother me but might someone else like the front camera.

Speaker si very loud and crisp unlike the few reviews i saw, were people were complaining about main speaker that it's not loud. It's okay and you can hear everything great and overall the phone is waterproof so maybe that's why it sound a bit silenced well they need to protect it.

What i miss the most is that they replaced volume buttons on the side, i missed them being around camera it was so great and natural but again fu*k it IP68 😜 the buttons are great all though when you pressed them they kinda feel like they have some space around them and they kinda feel fragile but that's just a feeling im getting..

The phone speaker is great and loud, voice of the person you talk with is crisp aswell but i sometimes do hear some background noises so idk what else to say on that..

User experience on G6 so far has been great i love their UI, for me the LG has the best smartphone keyboard on market for years so far.. I had few laggs after switching or leaving some apps, but it seems like these are just some bugs that can be fixed with some future update.
Everything else is working fast and smoothly.

Here on Europe we have very hot summers so my G3 for example for staying in standby and only in my pocket was having temperatures that goes 44+ celsius, and the G6 on the other hand on the direct sun and usage on it don't goes over 38 celsius, and average temp of the phone is 34. How much is that in kelvin idk 100 kelvin is 0 celsius so you can calculate it for yourself i'm lazy about that haha...

So for the end i have some friends that are having the S8 but honestly how much i do miss the led notification, the SP835 on the G6 i would still go for it over the S8, i absolutely love the phone and i'm glad i bought it over the S8 and iPhone 7.

And idk where are you all from i guess USA but here in Europe you can find the G6 with no contract and provider for like 450-500$ so that's pretty okay price i would say for a great phone. And honestly i think that after the G2 this is their first phone series that is so far worth buying. If you have any other questions feel free to ask, because idk what else to say or comment about it, sorry if my english is bad it's not my main language.. 😁

I don't feel like quoting the above comment so i'll add my 2 cents on it here :P

i liked the g3 too even though it got toasty (pretty handy in the winter :P) charging i agree could be faster with the g6, i feel like it takes forever even though it's "fast charging". Most people complaining about the display probably come from amoled which are knowned to be over saturated to look nice g6 has more natural colors and imo it looks very nice too not AS saturated as amoled but at least i can see dark scenes in my movies and videos :P. I come from the s8+ and i can easily say the display was much brighter specially in sunlight, but the g6 is still more than visible outside, the aod though is a hit or miss since lg uses an lcd pannel the whole screen is lit up if that function is on, it dosen't use that much battery still (unless you use the bright mode) and that's good. Fingerprint scanner i've had no issues yes there's a small animation when you unlock it (which is why there's a kind of delay when you press the finger sensor) but it's still pretty instant imho. Phone speaker is subjective, i don't see why people want to use these so bad. Yeah i get for hands free calling but you don't need a hifi speaker for that purpose any phone speaker will do the job. If you wanna listen music through that speaker that's plain dumb imho get headphones or a bluetooth speaker your ears will thank you later XD. Gotta say i've kept the lg keyboard still and i kinda like it still have swiftkey on standby in case but idk if i'll use it.

I'm in canada btw and i don't really miss much about the s8 exept maybe for the amoled screen but then again samsung always have the nicest screens imo, though i don't see the need for the 835 at all battery life is great here and performance has been fluid overall,no idea about contract-less prices but i could've gotten the g6 for 100$ instead of 500$ for the s8+ when i upgraded so that tells alot about quality imo. (plus go have a look on the s8 forums most threads are people having issues and such, which here i barely see any and most times they're fixed quite quickly)

Yeah and i forgot about screen the other day friend took my phone he is still on G3 ( feel sorry for him 😜 ) he loads up the fb messenger app on both of our phones put brightness on both on 100% and i was like what are you doing ? And he said check your white and check mine, yours is white and mine is yellow/white and i was like no **** i noticed it back on G3 but i was like it comes from the app or sunlight.. But there where planty diffrences between the white color on screens. 😁

No the fingerprint scanner is okay it could be just a bit faster.. But im okay with it.. 😜

And here in Europe we only get the 32gb version with no wireless charging or Hifi DAC. 32gb is still plenty for me as I utilise cloud storage well but I did miss wireless charging on my G6. Not a deal breaker but it's nice to be able to pop it on the wireless charging stand next to my bed at night without fumbling around in the dark for a USB cable. Plus the fact we in Europe probably pay more to not get those features

Yeah forgot to mention that haha.. To me aswell 32gb is enough storage, hifi dac would be nice but with pack of great headphones the sound rocks i used mine audio tehnica just to hear the sound and it was blast.. Hmm, wireless charging is for me meh, idk basicly same ****. Wireless charger must be on power so its the same **** only no wires in phone so.. Not something i would consider in not buying the G6, and @dov there is always the flashlight to help out. Hahahaha.. 😁

They kinda always fu*k up us in europe with something no V20, no this, no that..ebay/amazon seller does not ship to your country.. Like we're on antarctica or something... 😂

Yes and LG charged us more to remove said features.... 🤔
