PH-1 camera samples now available

To current (and future) owners of this phone, could you provide some insight on how the camera and camera app experience compares to a Nexus 6P? My 6P is dying and since I'll be in the USA on October, I'm thinking of picking the Essential up. Was planning to get a variant of the Pixel 2 but it doesn't seem like it will be out on time.

As long as the camera is an upgrade over the 6P I'll be happy with it.

Cheers!

Give us a few days on that response. Only reviewers have the phone right now. None of us common folk have received them yet.

My take is that the hardware looks promising from the samples shown in reviews. The camera app itself might need some work but there are quite a few app options if the stock one proves lackluster.

Thanks!

Yes this is my first impression with the image samples and reviews so far.

One more important thing for me in a smartphone camera is speed. I've got 2 toddlers running about the house and capturing their moments is something I really love to do. A fast launching camera with quick capture would be really nice.

Looking forward to hearing from you all! :)

I saw on one of the reviews that hitting the power button twice will open the camera.

Personally not impressed by the photos, maybe it's because I use a DSLR on a regular basis. Most photos from my S7 and my buddies Pixel look bad to me as well. LoL
