Bored with all the offerings right now. I'm using an old GS3 and really bored and tired of it, battery is starting to lose charge so I'm looking around but nothing's grabbing me. The Turbo looks like a beta test with VZs customers as the guinea pigs (BTW, I'm on VZW), the Moto X has a less than robust battery, the G3 is really interesting but not crazy about its UI and rear facing speaker (rear firing speaker is so yesterday), I'm tired of Samsung's TW and ultra bloat (sorry Samsung...you've lost me), HTC...meh, too dorky for me. One Plus One is interesting but VZW is being difficult with it and I need reception so I won't switch to AT&T.

Soooo...I just might wait until the new batch comes out. Thing is I think we're at a point where most of what can be done with phone has been done and we're in that holding pattern until the next big revolutionary idea comes along. It just seems that marginal improvements are the norm now. Maybe a G4 with front firing speaker and more pure Android like Moto is doing? Eh...help...stuck :-\

The next batch will be the same thing with different specs. The moto Droid Turbo is not a beta test. It simply a moto x with upgraded everything.
It's a killer device. Basically base android with a few moto enhancements and a bit of VZW bloat that can all be disabled.

Touchwiz may not be the best UI but being real, it's not That bad, and android can hide or remove anything you don't like about it.
Note 4 is killer. Samsung does has a few issues, but so does every other phone in the world.

Next year LG phones will still look like LG. Touchwiz will look like touchwiz, and Sense will be Sense.
At least with the Droid Turbo you will get 5.0 Quickly making things fresh and new.

Thanks mayconvert but reading the Turbo forums the past month+ looks like a beta test to me, Verizon just rolled it out with too many bugs but I'm sure with a few updates they'll get it right...but being VZ maybe not.

And you're right, the next batch will probably be the same with some marginal improvements. Dunno...just in a funk over these things right now.

That does suck. I hope you find a phone that will suite your needs!

Man I love this Z3V. It's an upgrade over the M8. Better speakers, better screen, faster performance, better ui. It's just a really great phone.

Have you taken a serious look at the Sony Xperia Z3v? I was totally in the same mindset as you, and I couldn't be happier with my Z3v.

pchain...yeah I did look at it the other day at VZ when I was up there browsing around. Are you worried about the glass breaking? I've been looking at the reviews and it seems like a really killer and under reported device. I'll have to check out case offerings for it, I'm a thin case type of person...what do you have? Is the UI overpowering?

At first I was hesitant about the glass on the back. Now having had the phone for a month, I'm not worried a bit.

Here's a you tube video showing how durable the Xperia Z2 is in drop tests...and it's the same glass backing as the Z3v. Sony Xperia Z2 Drop Test!: http://youtu.be/5BGQtfDZNt4

I'm a thin case guy too, and the case selection is a bit limited, although a few more have come out in the last couple.of weeks. I got the silicone case from Verizon in case I need a case, but I've actually been using this phone naked and it's really durabke. Of course if you are always dropping your phone I'd get the Otterbox or the dual Incipio Pro. I've never gone naked on a phone before and now that I have I don't have any worries with this phone. It depends what kind of environment you're in... If you're in construction and up and down ladders, you'd probably want to put a case on it. Office life or home life probably not needed unless you're accident prone. :-)

Then you're screwed. We have the best lineup of Android phones ever. If you can't find a phone for you in this lineup, it's not the phones' fault.

The Sony phones do look pretty nice. I almost picked up a Z3v instead of the note 4.
I do get the phone funk... It happens to everyone I think. Maybe you'll find something that holds you over for a year or so while you wait for the next big thing.
The only "coming soon" phone that I know of right now will be the Samsung S6 but who knows how long that will be.
Go to iPhone for a little while, makes android fresh and fun when you come back.

No thanks lol...I just don't get their phones. We have an Apple house; iMac, MacBook Pro, iPad, Apple TV, Apple Express, Apple Extreme...but I just can't get into their phones.

You're right, however every year is the best ever so we're living with this year's best ever phones, next year will be better than this year and on...

But to your point, maybe there's so many great phones out there that they're just taken for granted with their ubiquity.

Yep. It's normal with technology. I am enjoy my Note 4 / iPhone 6 Plus. Those two are keeping me happy.

I have the Z3 (UK version). It's a brilliant phone, especially battery life, which is incredible (and why I ditched the LG G3 for it).

Gotta say though, you're the first person I've heard say that the speakers are better than the M8's!

you have in your hand one of the most sophisticated devices ever made, it makes available to you almost unlimited information about anything on the planet and it does it in the blink of an eye, it allows you to be in real time communication with people all over the world, it takes pictures and video and saves it and lets you share it with others anywhere in the world all in the same moment that you experience it, you can borrow books from the library with out even going there , you can live video chat with someone from any where, you have access to 1,000's of movies and TV shows, you can play any kind of game you could think of , it will tell you how to get to where you want to go show you getting there and the speed you are driving or walking as you go, you can pull up a picture of just about anywhere on the planet, you can pull up a live feed of the earth from space, and all this is just a fraction of what the device you call a phone will do. And you are Bored?

Sheesh...if I did all of that I'd not have any time for work. ;)

It's a killer device.

With, it seems, a whole lot of bugs. Hence the "beta" tag.

To the OP, until we get some dramatic improvement in technology, you're not going to see any major changes. Each new generation is just incrementally improved from the one before. Somewhat faster processor, somewhat more memory, somewhat better screen specs, maybe a bit better battery life. Even Lollipop is more similar to KitKat than it is different, from a users perspective. It doesn't suddenly let our pocket computers do something they couldn't do before.

This is pretty mature technology, and like every other industry, the more mature a tech gets the more minor the possible improvements are.

Even if processor performance doubles tomorrow, how much performance can you really use? If it takes .25 seconds to switch apps instead of .5, will that really make a difference in how you use your phone? Will doubling screen res again, to full 4K really make text or graphics any sharper? Even doubling battery life won't really change much.

Doubling performance and battery life will permit more sophisticated software, but we really need a major jump in software, not just incremental improvement in hardware, before you're going to see something that wow's you.

That said, my G3 is much nicer than my GS3 was. Not dramatically, but everything is smoother, the screen is better, battery life is much better. I'm glad I got it. I doubt the G4 will offer anything that makes me go "Wow! I wish I had waited."

I think everyone has their own preferences for a phone, whether it be the camera, screen size, brand, etc. When I got the Note 3 in October 2013, I held onto my Galaxy Nexus an extra couple of months because their was nothing interesting to me then. I think there are a few more choices available this time of the year and better deals.
