Phone crash - battery level fell from 40-ish to 9%, with little recovery

I had my Samsung S4 Active in my pocket, and it crashed as it does occasionally. The battery level then went from 40-something to only 9%. It recovered somewhat, but it was nothing close to a linear battery consumption. Might this indicate battery issues?
