Phone Dead, Need to retrieve info HELP

Hi, I have a Samsung Galaxy s2 from AT&T and my phone will not turn on due to software issue. I need to retrieve my contacts and pics since I did not back up with Gmail. Is there a way to due this if the phone does not turn on?

The only way I know how is with the phone on. What happened with the software?
