Which Xiaomi phone? Can you try to record the screen when it's doing that and post where we can see it?

You mentioned "package installer" -- are there any sideloaded apps on the phone, or is the phone rooted or otherwise modified?

For our present purposes, sideloading refers to apps downloaded from sources other than the Play Store.

The full meaning is broader than that.

As a precaution, a backup of your personal data may be a good idea. From your description, I doubt that device failure is very likely, but who knows?

If it's not Floating Windows - Sidebar, I would send a query via Services and Feedback with a Log ideally.
Also try a Display test in the CIT panel. About - Detailed Info - Kernel Version (tap several times)

Other than that I don't know.

I think you will still get a response in Services and Feedback if you wait for it.

It probably won't show anything if that part of the screen works normally most of the time.
It's possible you don't have CIT tests **on the Redmi or your MIUI version*(I don't know what CIT means).
Getting there is like for Developer Options, but About Phone - Detailed Info and Spec - Kernel Version - tap multiple times.

it does have CTI tests but doesn't show display
Ah OK. Yours has an LCD display mine is an Oled / Amoled. I can't see why that makes a difference but it just displays three single colours in order so maybe it's an Oled colour test thing.

What you describe does ring a bell, but I can't remember anything about it. Was it a rectangular box with rounded corners. It may come back to me.

As B. Diddy suggested, try leaving it in Safe mode for a while when you don't need to use downloaded apps. It still functions as a smartphone.

You can screen record as a video, well mine can, and that would be helpful if you can catch it then.
I think that's what, again, B. Diddy was referring to. The white part may or may not appear in a screen recording or a screenshot though.

If I remember anything I'll post here.

*also you may have seen on the CIT screen there is an overflow menu of other "tools" with the 3 dots upper right, but Display is unlikely to be there.
