Hi!
My one month old S6 Edge fell down last week and the front glass broke. However I used the phone normally until today when I got the display replaced in a store. With an original out of the box display from Samsung. After that I noticed that the back and app key (the lowest touch buttons one the front) did not light up at all, although they did work. When I put the phone in the flip wallet cover it went dark and did not respond anymore. I could here it getting emails or phone calls but the screen kept black. I pushed Volume Down and Off buttons until it restarted, with normal screen (the touch buttons also lit up for a second) but after loading normally the screen went black again. If I took it out of the wallet cover it lit up, the two keys also lit up, but the keys did not work at all. Again forced restart. Without the wallet cover the phone starts normally and works except that the touch buttons stay black, but they work. The moment I insert it into the cover it goes black.
It must have something to do with the magnet sensor?!

I took it back to the store, the guy put back the brocken screen and it acted again the same. Then he ordered the USB Board (the part with the charging port) just in case he may have broken it himself but actually he doesn't know if that will help.

Do you have any idea??
Thanks!

The back button light setting is controlled with touchwiz automatically now. If you wanna take control of it then u need a app called galaxy button lights.

As for phone going black in flip wallet the lux sensor( two black dots infront next speaker) is sensing covered/blocked. Try different flip cover or ask the person who fixed it to check if he has placed the sensors back in correct place.

Else speak to samsung for warranty?

It doesn't have to do with the light sensor. The moment I place it on the cover, with the cover open, it goes black. It is triggered by something else, probably a magnet.

Hi Lucian. I went through a very similar situation as you, and now am experiencing the same problem! So I think this is s serious glitch in either the Samsung software or the replacement hardware. This is what happened with my phone:
My S6 Edge is about 5 weeks old. Shortly after I purchased it, after a drop from a bedside table, the display got a top left to bottom right diagonal crack across the display. The phone however continued to work perfectly despite the crack which was only really visible when the screen is black. Nonetheless, last week I decided to invest in a new original S6 Edge display through a seemingly reputable phone repair store. After replacement of the display, the same problem arose as you described: display freezes in original S6 Edge flip wallet, app and back button not lighting up when they should, display goes black/freezes as soon as it is placed in the flip wallet (with or without the flip open!) and after removal from the flip wallet the phone remains black or may light up in the last screen, but the display remains frozen making the phone useless. Restarting via the volume and off button sets it back to 'normal' again, but same as you with only the app and back button at the bottom not lighting up but working...... By the way, I then tried the phone in a non-Samsung S6 Edge flip wallet and the problem does not occur in that one!

This is no isolated coincidence that we both have the exact same issue AFTER HAVING THE DISPLAY SUPPOSEDLY PROPER REPLACED WITH AN ORIGINAL SAMSUNG DISPLAY! And the fact that the problem does not exist with other flip wallets (which wallets most probably do not activate certain sensors of the phone) this problem must have something to do with the phone sensors, magnet in the original wallet, or software/app that makes the sensors work.

Can you let me know if you issue was ever finally resolved, and if so, how?

Alan.

I suggested the shop to replace the micro usb charging board (it contains the sensors) and they did. They were not sure if it would help, but it did. It's all right now. They said they might have made a mistake and touched something on that mini board while changing the display.
