Phone goes black during use

I turned on the smart eye option thing but I can be using an app or on a call and it blacks out. Really annoying, any solutions?

I would guess either a bug, or a problem with the appropriate sensor.

It's a little better now but very hit and miss. No clue.

It's the proximity sensor. Try to keep your hands/fingers away from the top of the phone, for example if you try to swipe down the notification shade it will go dark because it thinks the phone is next to your face.
