Phone idle issues

So I recently got my hands on a ZX2 Compact. The phone experience is good, aside from the crazy battery drain, which is making me second guess this purchase.
I'm aware that low signal and WiFi can cause battery drain but I had a great test yesterday while in a great signal and strong WiFi zone. I lost 2% in 5 minutes.

I was just curious to know if anyone else is dealing with this too.

Hmm interesting, I have the bigger XZ2 and very impressed with battery, or idle battery life. Haven't seen any apps or anything else draining battery. Though I haven't measured how much battery life it loses sitting idle or anything since it gets me thru the day without even worrying and still some left at the end of the day. Compact has a smaller battery, but also smaller screen so don't know how it directly compares with XZ2. May be others who have compact can share their experience .

Thank you though. It's strange because this didn't happen with the ZX1 Compact for me but this did happen with other people. I expected more from it but I'm on day 3 so I'll give it some days to try some things. I might have an issue with Doze.

Hi libra89.
If you look it up even in reviews and lab tests the xz2 compact scored much lower in battery life then it's previous sibling (xz1 compact). On gsmarena for instance shows it 20 hrs compared to 108 hrs of last years model. The question then is why? Better efficient SDM845 compared to the 835 and a slightly bigger battery....still it scores less? Maybe play with the screen resolution? Higher pixel density/resolution can demand a bit more on the battery. Other than that seems like Sony completely revamped the design on the outside am wondering did they start or are trying to push some OS level changes to that may be affecting it?

You're so right about that. I noticed that it is less (over the XZ1 Compact) but I figured that less is still pretty good. That's a good suggestion about the screen resolution, thank you. I'll have to see if it can be changed/adjusted. Otherwise, both have Oreo and I don't see a difference between the two software wise.

Yes 88 hrs is still great imo...unless you're coming from the xz1 compact is the only way you'll really notice. 108 hrs avg is screaming good.

Yep, that is why I noticed instantly haha.

Am using a v30 for the past week. Exceptional battery on it. Personally I can go 8+ on screen hrs over 24+ hrs without a charge. It got better for me after the Oreo update. The v30 fits as one of the few android phones I can live with.

Nicee! That sounds pretty awesome.

I've used the Compact X, XZ1 and I went back and tried again the XZ2. My favorite for sure is the XZ1 for battery life. I've been using this past week the XZ2. I felt I owed myself another shot at the XZ2 considering I bought it outright. Quite an expensive product be be sitting on my desk unused.

I barely use the XZ2 for games though I do like to surf the web on WiFi and use Twitter but I'm really not a heavy user. Yesterday I did the travel test. I spent about 4 hours in my car with no Bluetooth or wifi on. Only the regular LTE phone signal was active. Within about an hour, I went from 98% to 80% with no phone usage. The hour spent was certainly in a good LTE area and I do not use roaming. I know roughly with the XZ1 I would drop maybe 2%-5% tops. Something's definitely draining the battery a lot faster than normal. I'm starting to wonder if the radio signals messed up and or a combination of software and the radio signal. So it's currently 11:47am and at 6:30 am was 100% fully charged. It's is now at 76% with only one phone call, three text messages and this chat to you on here. Looking at the battery under advanced settings I see the phone idle % had a usage of 6% that seems high to me and the on screen time also at 5%. All others 1%.

Screen on time 1 hour 15 min. Set with adaptive on and min off set at 15 seconds. Any ideas? 😁

This is for the regular XZ2, not the Compact, right?

Wow.
I'm glad that I wasn't alone here. It was just crazy for me so I decided to return my XZ2 Compact. That was a reason why (there are others too) but as you said, it's a bit much for such an expensive phone to be this way. It was to the point that it and the iPhone 7 nearly matched each other with battery life.

Yeah that sounds right. The idle is really strange here.

Ya in about 5 hrs with minimal usage is a bit high. That LG was at 16% Idle usage after about 24+hrs of use when I checked it..but comparing apples to oranges in a way.

Hope you guys get to the bottom of this.

I just got the XZ2 Compact and the idle battery life seems great so far.

Thank you but it's ok. I no longer have the phone so I can only hope it gets better for others.

I just you the XZ2 Compact and the idle battery life seems great so far.
Congrats! I hope it continues to be good for you.
