Phone in Pocket Perplexing Problems

I always hit the power button to close the phone before carefully sliding it backside out into the front pocket of my loose fitting jeans. Imagine my surprise when I hear the familiar voice of the Lady from Waze telling me to drive down my street and make a right at the next intersection. Hadn't use that app that day and had cleared all open apps beforehand. So somehow while all alone in my pocket the center button was pushed, the screen was swiped, the Waze app was opened, and a destination was selected. Or there's gremlin running around in my phone playing tricks on me. Once, several weeks ago, I "butt" dialed my daughter, phone in front pocket. Guess I'm gonna have to use a Pattern or Pin to prevent this. (No success with fingerprint).
Anyone else with similar issues?

Go to settings - screen and toggle the option "keep screen off" or something to on.

It shuts off the screen completely of any accidental input. I think it also shuts off the home button while the phone is kept in the pocket.

Thanks for your reply
Samsung makes it confusing by changing the menu options as different settings are selected. The option to "Keep screen turned off" was already enabled.
Without a lock option (pattern, PIN, fingerprint) the option to lock screen immediately with power button was not available.
If I add a pattern lock as I have before, then I can go to Quick Settings, Lock screen and security, secure lock settings, secured lock time, and then I have the option to select lock instantly with power button or screen timeout.
I had previously selected 5 minutes for screen timeout. Only swipe to unlock. Perhaps something happened within those 5 minutes in which a bump of the button and a rub on the screen turned the screen on. Don't know why the "Keep screen turned off" didn't work in my dark blue jeans.
Will try both pattern lock (less of a PIA than a PIN or my unsuccessful fingerprint attempts) and the instant screen lock with power button.
