Phone insurance nightmare

So I recently switched carriers from AT&T to verizon specifically for the bionic and 4G. While I got the new plan I ordered it from Amazon Wireless because they offered the phone extremely cheap, compared to what everyone else was offering it for. While making my purchase I made sure I ordered insurance on it. However when my bill came I noticed it was slightly cheaper and without the insurance, so I called verizon only to find out insurance was never added to my phone. At first I thought I was going crazy because I sworn that I added it. So I called Amazon Wireless and they provided me with my order details showing that I did order the insurance. I went back to verizon and even though I had proof that I ordered the insurance, they refused to add it on seeing how I was "past 30 days". Note that I am simply only trying to pay for insurance, I am not trying to get a replacement phone, my phone works great. I than called Amazon and informed them that Verizon would not add the insurance, so they called verizon and battled with them only to also get turned down. Obviously this is a mistake on either verizon's or Amazon's fault, because I have proof that I signed up for a plan with insurance. So everyone buying contracts NOT from Verizon be aware that it is possible that you might not get what you signed up for!

wow that sucks hopefully verizon does the right thing and put insurance on there.

Nope they refused, I even had the Amazon Wireless rep battle it out with the Verizon rep, unfortunately Verizon won that round. My only question now is it possible to opt out of the contract without any fees, I only say that because technically that is not the contract I signed up for? Am I "right" in this train of thought? Because I have proof that I ordered a plan with insurance, however I am currently on a plan without insurance, therefore wouldn't that void the contract?

I don't think so - the insurance is an add-on. Best bet is to go with a third-party insurer, or see if your homeowners policy covers smartphones.

I don't think the insurance is third party, I'm pretty sure it is the same insurance offered by verizon

I dont think you can purchase Verizon's insurance through Amazon, I know they sell 3rd party insurance like this one http://www.amazon.com/SquareTrade-2-Year-Accident-Protection-Warranty/dp/B0041OXLPW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1319147253&sr=8-1. If its past 30 days of purchasing then your SOL for getting insurance through Verizon.

Somebody feel free to correct me if im wrong.

Amazon does offer third party insurance, however im talking about when I signed up for a wireless plan with amazonwireless I had insurance added to the contract

Go to the BBB(better business bureau) with documentation. I bet they will add it then. It would be different if you didn't have record of it but since you do, the BBB will take that into consideration when mediating with vzw. If that turns up nothing, you may be SOL because it may cost you more than its worth to get a lawyer.

This is why I only buy directly from Verizon. The headaches are not worth whatever you save (at least to me).

The insurance is not through verizon it is a third party. I just went through this I had the radio shack insurance it was the same price but didn't cover theft or lost phones. I cancelled and called verizon on my last day to activate it. I kept getting disconnected saying high call volume. I called the next day and was told to bad. the insurance is through a second party and if they put it on my bill I will pay it but not be able to use it. They told me to contact the third party but I said screw it.

I don't know what your date of purchase was, but you can buy insurance through Ensquared for $58 per year up to 90 days from buying a new phone, regardless of where you purchased it.

Call Asurion, and they will add the insurance. Get the phone number from Verizon.
