I'm trying to add my gmail in Manage Accounts (tapping the plus sign) because I started having issues with it because it stated the unable to sign in error, so I deleted the account from my phone and wanted to add my gmail back in...it wont let me.

I keep getting: "Unable to set up account, Authentication failed" error

Here's what I've tried to correct.
* Checked to make sure I have the correct password and gmail address
* Gone into email app settings and cleared cash
* Tried Manual setup using IMAP with port 465
* Tried using my old gmail password
* Tried updating phone, no updates available

Nothing seems to work
Samsung Note 3
Version 5.0 Lollipop

Thanks

Welcome to Android Central! Are you using 2 factor authentication with your Google account?

You going run into more issues being on Android 5 it's too far behind .

I just checked my two factor authentication in my Google acct. It is turned off.
still wont let me add my gmail acct.
Thanks for the help

Are you just trying to add the email account to your email app, or are you in the system settings>Accounts menu, trying to add that Google account for the whole phone?

If you're trying to add just the Gmail account to your email app, which email app are you using -- the stock Samsung Email app, or the actual Gmail app?

I'm trying to add my gmail in the stock samsung email area, so it can be with the rest of my emails...all in one place. The actual gmail app works.
Thanks for the help

As mentioned by mustang7757, it might be due to how outdated your phone is. Try clearing both the app cache and data from the Email app in Settings>Apps.

Does this happen on both wi-fi and mobile data?
