A really strange problem.
Entered to see an existing contact on HTC U11 Android 7.1.1
See all contact details including phone numbers.
Now I press the pencil up on the left to edit the contact
And you can no longer see the contact's phone numbers and therefore can not be changed.

Clicking on the screen in the area of the phone number does not open anything.
Pressing the "Mobile" or "Other" button only allows you to change the phone type, but you can not see or edit the number yet.
Clicking on the "+" on a phone line also adds another phone category line like "home" for example ,but can not see or add a phone number.

Same problem opening new contact.
Click Add New Contact.
You can add a name to the new contact
But again my phone number does not respond. You can not add a phone number to the contact.
And something very strange. If instead of clicking the area of the phone number that is not responding,
I click Next on the keyboard after typing the contact name
The cursor probably moves to the phone number area in the contact.
And the keyboard opens on the number mode,
I click numbers and no number is displayed on the screen.
The number area in the contact seemed to be empty, as if I had not typed any number.
If I end up keeping this contact even though you do not see any number.
A valid contact is saved with the number I typed even though I did not see the number being typed on the screen.

In short, a very strange problem. I have had HTC phones for many years and have not seen such a problem.
Has anyone had such a problem? ??? .
Does anyone know how to fix it ???

Hi! Have you tried restarting your phone to see if the contact editing issues go away? I've never seen this problem occur before, but I can certainly understand how frustrating it must be!
