phone pisc are donwnloading duplicates

I have a Droid Razr Maxx. Every time I transfer my pics from my phone to the laptop there are duplicates. So instead of transferring only 400 pics I'm getting 800 on the laptop. Ive tried deleting the pics and transferring them again and I'm getting the same issue. I had this issue with my previous laptop and I thought it was that particular laptop, but even my new one I'm getting duplicates pics. Anyone else experience this? How can I fix this?:-\
