Phone says it's already activated

I recently purchased a droid x2 for verizon off craigslist. When I turn the phone on it says it needs to be activated but after I enter my information it says it is already active on a different account. I have been keeping in touch with the seller and he switched to tmobile that's why he is selling the phone. After contacting verizon about the problem they said it it could be since he just switched I need to wait until the end of his last billing period which was yesterday. I am waiting for tomorrow because I want to give it a full 24 hours after the end of his billing period because that stuff probably takes a while to go through but has anyone else experienced a problem like this.
