I got home and noticed a package containing a sprint touch screen phone (motarola photon). It was sent to my address but for the old owner of the home. Looks like it was a replacement phone from the full insurance plan . I would have never opened the box but I am a computer tech and always receive parts in the mail from UPS and FedEx . I don't have contact with the old owner of the house and my daughter is begging me to keep it and activate it .

It's mine, give it back! :p

Seriously though, I'd return it to the sender. If someone got my phone by mistake I'd be extremely upset if they activated it...

Call Sprint, they should be able to track by address and give you a return label. Trying to activate it could lead to it being labeled as stolen... Bad idea.

I called sprint and they told me that if I wanted to send it back that I would need to pay for the return shipping ! I told them they were nuts .

Agreed. I wouldn't keep someone else's phone either.

Wow, that's rude of Sprint to try and charge you for doing the right thing. I'd just take it by the post office and tell them what happened. Or even catch your mailman next time he comes by and have him take it back.

I'm just afraid if I do that that the mailman will take it for himself and since I am a Sprint customer that it will come back to me some how and I get charged for.it . I tried to let them know about the mistake and it seems like they are not really interested in getting it to the right person or to fix the issue , which is kind of disturbing comming from their customer service .

If you think it was an insurance replacement, then I would think calling assurian would be better than sprint....technically it's Assurians property, not sprints( which might be why they won't pay the shipping.....)

I'll gladly pay you Tuesday, for a hamburger today..........

Good idea ill try that and see what happens , but if they tell me to pay for shipping or I get the run around , that thing is staying in my garage forever .

I would say just say screw it and activate it if that happens, but like someone else mentioned I wouldn't want you to get in trouble having it show up as stolen or something. Not to mention I'd feel bad for whoever the phone was supposed to go to as I'm sure it'd cause them all kinds of headaches. They really should update their address though...heh.

I'd just tape up the box and write "MOVED. NO FORWARDING ADDRESS." on it, and give it back to USPS/UPS/FedEx. They will make sure it gets back to whoever sent it, and you won't have to pay for shipping.

Well I got hassled by asurion , got grilled for opening the package that didn't belong to me even though I am trying to do the right thing , I'm just gonna go to FedEx tommorow and just drop it off and get something saying I gave it back. I am just amazed that I am getting such a runaround for a mistake that I didn't cause and that I am trying to fix . I hope karma comes back and rewards me for all this . Thanks for all your help guys .

Seriously, that is messed up. Sorry they're giving you such a hard time, and I applaud you for doing the right thing. :)

Asurion is a pain in the ass, but sprint is worse... They are shutting my fiancee's plan down because they sent her a warranty replacement and say they never received the original back, which fedex tracking shows they received june 11

And do you know what the funniest thing is? I work in an office building that houses a Sprint call center. Fortunately, I don't work for Sprint though. :p

Ask the mods to delete this thread and claim you never, ever saw the phone and forget it. Don't activate it.

I'm sure whoever ordered the replacement has already contacted assurion and has another replacement device.

I understand your frustration, but I'm glad you're doing the right thing. More people need to do that (including faceless corporation and customer service call centers).

The even funnier thing, I'm adding her line to my plan and her sister is gonna get stuck with the charge :p
