Phone Shuts down / turns off on screen time out.

[Android Central Question]

My HTC 816 turns off / shuts down after screen time out. After time out if you let it ideal for 5-7 seconds and then try to wake it up by pressing the power button, you will have to long press the button and the phone will boot.
I also noticed it turns of completely about 80% times and 20% times it restarts.

Other interesting thing i noticed is that if the phone is plugged into a power source it wont turnoff/restart, it will behave as it should.

Also if you are on a call, and the screen times out it wont turnoff / restart.

I guess the problem comes when the phone is left idle.

I have tried factory reset, clearing cache, booting in safe mode, nothing works.

Battery is in very good condition, no fluctuations gives very good backup.

Welcome to Android Central! It could be faulty firmware or hardware. You could try reinstalling the firmware, if you can find the correct device here: ROM Downloads for your HTC smartphone - Support | HTC United States. Otherwise, you'd have to bring it to a repair shop, assuming the phone is no longer under warranty.

Hey B. Diddy, I was wondering if its an issue related to power supply ( IC or battery) ?

Could be, but I'm not savvy enough when it comes to hardware stuff to know for sure.

also, i feel it wont be as easy to downgrade firmware/rom?

Sorry, I thought that site would actually have instructions on how to install the firmware, but apparently not.:-\ I'm not sure if there's a simple way to do it. Just wait and see if someone has an answer -- you can bump the thread every few days to bring it back up near the top of the thread list. Also consider posting your question on the forums at XDA-developers.com, which is a good resource for this kind of thing.
