Phone will not wake up for incoming call if connected to Bluetooth

I found my Pixel 1 XL will not wake up for an incoming call. I have to use the finger print sensor to unlock the phone to answer the call. I also cannot see who's calling me until I unlock the phone.

I found the same issue on the Pixel 2 forums.

I have had the same problem since the January 2018 update. But I can't get it to show whenever the phone is not showing screen. Any time the screen is black it won't wake up to see a call not just with Bluetooth

I uninstalled the update and locked out the auto update for the phone app. That solved the problem. I'm going to assume Google will not be fixing this anytime soon.

I don't make/receive many phone calls so didn't realize this was unusual, but I received a couple calls while connected to my truck's bluetooth in the past few days. The phone rang, the incoming number displayed on the small LED display in the dash, but the phone screen stayed dark. However, my phone wasn't locked (Smart Lock on the truck's bluetooth) so simply had to hit the power button to light up the screen and see the caller information. Receiving calls when not connected to bluetooth has been normal (screen comes on as usual).
