I have a Verizon LG G4 phone and after the Marshmallow update it now longer will connect to my PC. It used to give me a popup saying it was connected to a USB cable. Now, it doesn't do that and when I look at the developer options, is says it's on charge only. When I try to switch it back to MTF, it stays at Charge only. Any ideas?

  1. Connect the USB cable to both phone and PC
  2. Make certain phone is on and unlocked
  3. Pull down the notification shade where you will see something like "USB Connected"
  4. Tap that and select "File transfer mode" (or whatever it says; I don't recall exactly)

You must repeat the above each and every time you connect to your PC

Thank you N4Newbie. I had the same problem. I can connect now but it's annoying to have to do it each time. Don't know why the developers thought that would be a good idea.

I presume it is part of Google's drive towards increased security.

I registered just to let you know I'm having the same EXACT problem. Phone will just no matter what I do not connect to my computer after update to 6.0. I have a Sony Xperia Z5 dual. I have enabled USB debugging, enabled OEM unlock, selected MTP under USB Configuration. MTP was already selected, but I cycled through it and selected it again. When I did this, it changed to Charge Only and I could not change it back. I cycled through all the options several times trying to choose other ones. After trying this several times, MTP finally got selected. Not sure if this is a bug with Android 6.0 or what. I have tried with 4 different cables (these all worked before the update on this same computer). I have tried plugging them in with the phone unlocked, with the phone locked, restarting the phone and the computer. Nothing works. The computer is a laptop running Windows 8.1. As I said, it worked just fine with this laptop previous to the update. When I connect the cable, I hear a sound from the phone, but no notifications appear saying anything about being connected to a computer.

I connected the phone to my work PC running Windows 7 and everything worked just fine after installing drivers for USB Composite Device and Xperia Z5 Dual. This happened automatically when I plugged it in. I did get a message saying it couldn't find a driver for the ADB Interface, but I don't even know what that is and everything works fine like before. But on this PC, it's set to automatically search and download relevant drivers. So that could be the issue. Otherwise, there's some sort of incompatibility problem with Windows 8.1. I will try my home PC running Windows 7 that also has automatic updates turned off and see. I hope some of this information helps you.

Actually, after some back and forth with Verizon and finally taking my laptop and android into the store to actually show them what was happening, they reluctantly admitted they sold me a phone with a bad USB cable. Replaced the cable with a new one and the popup now comes up. Able to connect to my PC without any troubles now. Apparently, voltage was coming through the cable letting my phone charge but something was funky with it making the computer unable to find the phone. Works now. Thanks everyone!

There are such things as "power only" USB cables (for example, http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&ke...ag=hawk-future-20&ascsubtag=UUacUvbUpU5113087 ). How they could make that mistake is anyone's guess...

Thought it was just me too. Talked to Verizon about it but the tech was lame and had no idea...and of all times, this is the one that Verizon didn't text me to fill out a Customer Satisfaction Survey on the call :(.

I have a Samsung s5, but I had the same problem. Win 10 kept saying it was 'locked'. Updated the drivers through Samsung Kies, and found the USB controller app on the phone after that, where you can set it to upload or charge. Fixed my problem, good luck with yours!

Did you ever find a solution? I've had the same problem (also with a Z3) but I can't even get it to connect with other computers.

I have an S6, trying to connect to a Toshiba laptop running Windows 7. When I first got the phone, I was able to connect/transfer pics and music to the laptop. Now...nothing. I'm using the original cord (it's the only cord I have). I've tried using my wife's cord, from her LG phone...no luck. I've installed all of the drivers. I've plugged the phone into both USB ports. I've gone in to Developer Options and changed it to MTP. I've tried all of the suggestions on this and many other threads. When I plug the phone into the computer, the phone screen lights up, like it is recognizing being plugged in, but nothing on the laptop. Even if I have the phone on "Charging", in Developer Options, it won't charge - it will light up, like it recognizes it is plugged in, but nothing else. I've had the phone for a little over a year. I don't remember exactly when this issue started, but it was quite awhile back...long before the last update.

It seems like this should be a simple setting change on the phone, but I have no idea where to look. Any and all suggestions are appreciated.

For those of you with other carriers, I had the same problem with my T-Mobile LG G3. Absolutely no information whatsoever, the G3 would never register on my PC. Of course, the government has forced them to put an invasive program on your phone now that gives them access to your PC in addition to your cell phone.

Once you plug your USB cable into your LG G3, you have to pull the notification menu down at the top from your main screen (where you would see all your notifications for Tweets, Weather warnings, etc.). It will show you a USB option and asks you to download the LG G3 Suite (again, now everyone has access to every piece of electronics in your home, work, etc.) to allow your computer access to your phone. When you press on the ok to install the Suite, it will do a bunch of invasive things to your computer, you'll have to save the program on your computer, install it, wait 5 minutes while it goes through your computer and hacks all your personal information, then FINALLY it will detect your phone and you'll see it in your file manager on your PC.

I'm not thrilled about it and if I didn't keep videos on my phone to watch while I have to wait for things I would never have installed the program on my PC to begin with. *growl*

Its True, I changed my Cable (to a thicker cord) and the phone connected to the computer,,,, After an Hour of surfing and redirecting, it was the cable after all, simple!!!! try that first!!!

Guys, I found the solution! So, just go to Development settings, then scroll down until you won't see an option "Select USB Configuration", then choose MTP at the menu. That's it!

I have the LG G5 and am having this problem. I used to be able to click on what I wanted the phone to do but now there is no USB notification and I can't switch from charging to file transfer. How do I get the USB notification to pop up?

I've got the same exact problem as the original poster, only it worked fine until yesterday, and I've tried everything. 3 different cables, selecting manually MTP through developer options, when I do that it wont change from charging only. I don't get the pop up to select MTP anymore when I plug in, I don't get the notification bar message you could swipe down and use. NOTHING, it just stopped working. I have even tried 3 different computers and this didn't happen after any update, it just quit.

Do I have a hardware failure on my phone? Anything else I can try>

I just totally give up with trying to connect my phone to pc !!!! I can't believe the effort your expected to go to nothing seems to work ....I give up!!! had enough !!! Not worth the effort !!!

Hey everyone,

My phone (Wiko sunny) does connect to my PC BUT I can't turn on MTP or PTP mode at all.
I tried it with several cables and another PC but nothing seems to work.
when I try to change the mode it sticks to "charge only" even if I long tap on the MTP or PTP option.
anyone an Idea on how to fix it?
