I've tried finding an answer but my question is usually misinterpreted.
I want to edit a tag name, not edit a tag on an image.
There are a lot of my photos I tagged with a friend's name, I created the tag and later found out I spelled the name wrong.
Is there a way to edit the spelling of a tag so that all the tags display the correct spelling? Thanks.

Welcome to Android Central forums. I'm a little lost trying to follow your post.

Ok I think I see now. I was confused before and it took me reading your post multiple times before getting it to click what I truly believe you're asking. You have a someone who appears in several of your photos and the gallery in its bid to be helpful has found this person's name, but spelled incorrectly, and now associates these images with this misspelled name, and you would like to correct the source of this name so that the gallery then correctly identifies this person with a correctly spelled name. Is this correct?

Gemini says this is how tags are created,

The Samsung Gallery app's facial recognition feature automatically generates names by comparing faces in your images to a database of faces you've previously labeled. The app learns to recognize these faces and then associates new, unidentified faces with those already labeled. This process allows the Gallery app to automatically suggest names for new faces based on the matches it finds in your existing tagged images. [1, 1, 2, 2, 3, 4, 5]
Here's a more detailed breakdown: [1, 1, 4, 4]

Then I asked how to edit these tags,

To correct a misspelled name in the Samsung Gallery app's facial recognition feature and ensure all associated tags are updated, you need to go to the Gallery app, navigate to the person's album, and edit the incorrect name in the information for that person. The app will then automatically update the tags in all photos associated with that face. [1, 1, 2, 3, 4]
Here's a step-by-step guide: [1, 1, 2, 2, 5, 6]

  1. Open the Gallery app: Locate the Gallery app on your Samsung device and open it.
  2. Navigate to the Person's Album: Find the specific person's album within the Gallery app. This is usually displayed as a photo of the person with the name tag.
  3. Edit the Name:
    • Open the photo album of the person.
    • Tap on the information icon (usually a "i" in a circle) associated with that person's name.
    • Edit the name to reflect the correct spelling.
  4. App Updates Automatically: The Samsung Gallery app should automatically update all tags associated with that person's face to reflect the new, corrected name.
Is this the information you were looking for?

If I'm correct you're looking for this...

I'll try that out, but it's not the app assigning the misspelled name, it's me doing it manually. And it's not only faces, it's things we've done, cars, work I'm doing, etc...
I seem to be having a bit of difficulty articulating this. I'm hoping there is simply a method of renaming the tag name itself, but when I tried to google search this I was presented with methods to change the tag associated with the image.
Basically, I was hoping there was a file or database containing tags I've used and I could alter them there. I'm beginning to wonder if simply searching for the tag and then adding a second correctly formated tag would be easier as you can add a tag to multiple images at the same time.
Thank you for spending the time researching this, you did better than I was doing.

I would have to agree that I am struggling to fully understand what it is that you're looking for because this sounds like something different than your first post. I asked Google how to view a list of all tags in the gallery and Gemini said this,

Yes, there are multiple ways to view all the tags used in your Samsung Gallery. You can either view tags associated with a specific picture, or search for all photos tagged with a particular term. [1, 1, 2, 2, 3, 3]
1. Viewing tags for a specific picture: [1, 2, 3]

  • Open the Gallery app and navigate to the desired photo. [1, 1, 2, 2]
  • Swipe up: to view the details of the photo, including any tags. [1, 1, 2, 2, 4, 4]
  • If there are no tags, you'll see an "Add Tag" option. [1, 1, 4, 4]
2. Searching for photos by tag:
  • Open the Gallery app and tap the search icon (usually a magnifying glass). [2, 5, 6]
  • Type in the tag you're looking for (e.g., "Beach", "Landscape", "Food"). [3, 5, 6]
  • The search function will then display all photos and videos tagged with that term. [3, 5, 6]
3. Enabling "My Tags" (for UI 6 and newer): [1, 1, 2, 2, 7]
  • Open the Gallery app and tap the menu button (usually three lines).
  • Go to Search Settings, then Search categories.
  • Make sure the "My tags" section is enabled. This will allow you to see all your custom tags in the search results.
Important Note: The way to access these features might slightly vary depending on the version of One UI you are using. [1, 2]

Number 3 sounds like the one you're looking for, custom tags you added yourself, able to see all of these tags you created...

Let us know this is what you're looking for.

Okay, 1 and 2 are basically intuitive, if you've used computers for a while they are what you'd expect.
I tried 3, but my app didn't offer me a "My Tags" option.
Let's say you have a website with CSS, and rather than touching each page to change a font or background, you make a change to the css and it changes to look of all the pages.
I want to change the spelling on 1 tag I created and have all the images with that tag update the spelling. I was hoping there was some way of doing that, but maybe there isn't? Or maybe there is a newer version of the app.
Hey, thanks. I've been beating my head on a wall with an electrical issue on my truck, so I switched over to this.

I do have a newer version of the app than you seem to have. Mine is 15.6.01.18. I asked Gemini if it knew what was the first version of the gallery app to have the category My tags since you were not able to find it, and Gemini said this.

The specific version number of the Samsung Gallery app when the "My Tags" category first appeared is not readily available. However, it's likely that the "My Tags" feature, which allows users to add custom tags to photos and videos, was introduced with an update to the Gallery app around Android 10 or Android 11. This feature is typically used for organizing and searching for specific photos or videos within the gallery app. [1, 2]

Unfortunately I do not use any custom tags but I created one just to test this. I can confirm the directions for #3 work in my version of the app. The directions are not very clear how to navigate to these menus so just to be sure we're looking at and looking for the same thing, this is the path I took to reach the "My Tags" option in the settings menu.

Open Gallery app>select the magnifying glass icon to open a search>tap the 3 dots top right>Search Settings>Search Categories>bottom of the list "My tags". Once enabled going back two pages to the search screen, scroll to the bottom to see your custom tags under the heading My tags.

If this was the path you took and were unable to find this option, try updating your app, I've found apps from the Samsung App Store do not automatically update the way apps do from the Play Store, so hopefully it's just a matter of getting the update and you're good. Without this category/option I would agree, it is probably not possible.

As for your mention of a CSS, I have to admit I am not familiar but I am familiar with Android enough to know that you're not touching anything at that level on a stock Android device. I am not aware of any file manager for Android that will even allow you to see app folders, much less the sub folders for apps, which is what this sounds like to me, again not knowing what that is exactly.
