Photo GPS incorrect

I did a test tonight with a photo taken from S22U, Note 20U and Pixel 2XL. Only the Pixel 2XL showed coordinates. Draw your own conclusions.

I've already drawn my own conclusions. The replacement phone has the "correct" coordinates in the photo's EXIF file. And I had forgot the 1st S22 I had received I had taken four photos and checked those last night and they had the GPS coordinates in the EXIF files. So my conclusion is I had a defective S22. (I am on my third S22, the 2nd one was the problem and was returned. The 1st was returned due to a dispute with a company called Rakuten and there is a thread going on that here.)

I do have to ask, you have turned on location tags for the photos?

Anyone having problems with the GPS location on a photo is being off and when I mean off, I mean by about a mile or more?

I have read that it is a known issue in with the Exynos processor; however, I have the Snapdragon.
Yes, mine is way off in photos too.

I've been experiencing the same issue with my S22U (Snapdragon), wherein the location data for camera photos has incorrect location information. Photos taken at my house have location information from an address in a nearby neighborhood, about 1/4 mile away (as the bird flies), when details is viewed in Gallery. Similar with photos taken while traveling. When the photo properties are viewed in Windows 10, there is no location data (i.e., no latitude/longitude). Camera "Location permission" has a toggle for precise location, but the toggle doesn't turn blue when switched on, it remains gray whether toggled on or off (slightly grayer when off). I tried the Expert Raw workaround, but photos taken with it have zero location data (no even incorrect location). I've submitted an error report to Samsung Members app > Get help > Send feedback > Error reports, but have not heard back yet. Has anyone come up with a workaround / solution?

In Expert Raw settings, I noticed that location tags was turned off, but after turning it on (as it is in the main camera app) and taking a photo at home, it now tags the image with a location, but it's the same (exact) incorrect location (address) as photos taken with the main camera app. Frustrating.

I noticed yesterday when doing some test photos it was showing location at and address 1/4 mile away. Everyone in our town has same postal code. Not sure if that is part of problem. GPS on phone is fine Google maps has me in correct location.

Checked again just now same problem.

I notice that an app, AccuWeather shows I am at the same location shown on photos.

Have gone through all location settings and am stumped.

No VPN.

I let the phone put apps in deep sleep which I read can effect location but don't think this is the problem as I removed Accuweather from deep sleep and gave it allow all the time permission still gives incorrect location.

Have rebooted the phone. Is there a simple way to clear any cache stuff.

Yeah apps put to sleep can mess with notifications and apps ability to do other task , do you use battery save mode?

I am also not using VPN, nor have I been using apps that have been put in deep sleep.

I received a response from my error report to the Samsung Members app. They said they couldn't resolve my issue because I hadn't sent them my reference (home) GPS coordinates with corresponding conversion address (my bad). Additionally, they commented, "The gallery app uses Google geocoder api, but Google says the api is less accurate. So we are reviewing how not to provide address value." I have just revised my error report to include my home coordinates & address along with the coordinates of the incorrectly labeled home photos in Gallery.

Interestingly, based on the recent input from user gtt1, I pulled up Google Maps on my S22U to review my home location in more detail. It showed the blue dot beacon from my phone, at my house, as "current location," whereas my "Home" icon was incorrectly pinned on an address two houses down my street. Using Maps, I sent Google a calibrated picture to update my location (on the S22U). My home address is not incorrectly labeled in Google Maps on my computer. This suggests the GPS on my S22U is askew in different ways, or Google maps has different versions for mobile vs internet users, which would seem odd. I also mentioned this situation in my error report to the Samsung Members app.

Yes, thank you, location accuracy is turned on. Out of concern with these hiccups, I also tested the "Findmymobile.samsung.com" service. It located my phone accurately. With that precision, I don't understand how photo location tags can be so inaccurate. I find it hard to accept the reply from the Samsung Members app. that "The gallery app uses Google geocoder api, but Google says the api is less accurate." I just went to Google's geocoder api website, typed in my address, and it is incredibly precise, down to the dimensional coordinates of the property plot.

Also as a curiosity test, I briefly un-retired my old Samsung S6 (which the S22U replaced, huge upgrade) to test photo location tags on that device. That location was even further off, although I didn't reinstall my SIM card. But got me wondering - my SIM card came with my old Galaxy S6 (2015). Would it's age be a contributing factor? It wouldn't seem so if findmyphone is so accurate.

Location is on in gallery I'm assuming?
Permission also for location always or while using app? Try this also long press gallery then tap info>go to battery is it set to optimize if so change to unrestricted then go mobile data is allowed to work in background also on?

Yes, all of those permissions are toggled on. The only oddity is that precise location in Gallery, while toggle on, is not shaded in the typical blue color, but a grayish color. When turned off it is a different shade of gray.

I once had a navigation app show that I was in an airport half a continent away from the actual airport I was in. A temporary gps location tolerance or interpolation error of a few miles I can understand, but an error that coincidentally put me in another airport half a continent away? No way that is coincidental. My guess is the cellular or wifi equipment in the airports was from the same provider and/or was setup with some same initial settings. The scenario is basically the same as the other poster earlier in this thread who was at a concert in one arena but his pictures showed him in another arena.

I have as many as possible location assist, wifi gps assist, network location assist, etc... settings turned off on my handheld devices, with an idea that the devices can depend more on what they can conclude as from the actual satellite gps sigmals, as opposed to my devices sharing location and wifi info to some sort of Apple or Google or Carrier geo databases.

Similarly for my desktops and laptops and home network routers and printers, I don't have any of them set to try to use location services. There was another thread here in AC a while ago of a guy who's computer kept telling him he was in his brother's city, because of how something was setup in the arrangement of router/computer when the equipment was at his brother's house and then later moved to his city/house.

No idea if any of that helps for the situation but I figured I would mention it.
