Photon Battery - Sedio Extended (was posted on XDA as well)

So I was one of those who was finding my battery life to not be sufficient on the Photon and bought the Seidio extended battery. First thought is that it does make the phone heavier, but I can deal with that. Not a deal breaker.

My issue is that the Photon doesn't recognize the fact that I now have the extended battery. I've spent the last two days using Battery calibration software (charging overnight to 100%) and then trying to discharge completely and recharge. The problem is that the phone continually is showing 1% for almost 3-4 hours if not longer. I can't get it to recognize that there is more juice in there.

While it's great that it seems to be working well (first real work day with it today), having the battery drain like mad (or seemingly) and then sitting at 1% for half or more of the day and not knowing when it will die is a problem.

I wonder if this is why the stock seemed to drain so quickly - maybe it's a programming bug? Firmware bug? I dunno. In any event, any suggestions on how to make the phone actually see that there's more juice would be great.

As an FYI I've used "Battery Calibrator" - both of them and Battery Drainer and Fast Discharge to get the phone down. I am rooted, but everything is stock other then the root itself.

I spoke with Sedio - they said I should unroot the phone and do a master reset. I can't believe that would make it work better - but I'd rather ask this community first.

Thanks!

I'm having the same issue and I'm not rooted.
Only once the phone had the correct calibration and now its back having the 1% issue.

I put the battery in my wife's photon and it imm showed a different battery percentage. For the hell of it I'm going to do a complete stock reinstall. It's a pain in the ass, but I figure I may as well try everything before I go back to Sedio. I don't think it's the Photon, but who knows.. Is the battery information read from the battery or determined by the phone?

Any luck with a reset to correct the battery calibration?

My phone sat at 1% for 5 hours last night until it finally died.

Hi everyone,

If you feel that you are having abnormal issues with your battery and would like to troubleshoot, feel free to contact our technical support by email (techsupport@seidioonline.com) or contact me and I will see what I can do to help.

@Sedio - Just sent you an email.

BTW - did a full stock rom reflash - didn't seem to help. Don't know for sure yet as today wasn't a normal "drain" day for me - but tomorrow will be. Still - based on where the battery is right now, I'm guessing that it made no difference.

Any updates? I'm thinking of buying.... but does it work correctly now?

I dont need more technology bugs in my life, have enough with car and laptop.

I am having the SAME issue with my PHOTON 4G as everyone here...I just emailed seidio...I am on my second battery I returned the first one thinkin it was faulty...apparently not :(

I got rid of my photon for the simple reason that it will not be acceptable w/ any extended battery..I called seidio AND Motorola...I went w/ the Samsung galaxy s2(epic 4g touch)

This a common issues thats been reported on multiple websites and forums that I've come across. There are a couple of fixes, the easiest seems to be this one posted on amazon:

"I tried a hand full of apps to correct the battery level indicator problem and settled on using the free app called "battery monitor" as it has a setting to determine how much power is left by reading the voltage and u can adjust the values, but I just left mine on the stock setting and now I have a digital percentage remaining in the top bar to the left (no stupid widget to clog my screen) of course the stock battery indicator to the right is still reading wrong but now I don't care to do anything about it as now I can tell how much power is really left."

There's a more detailed discussion with the same post and comments under the Trexcell extended battery discussion. I hope this helps. If you really want the stock battery app to read the correct percentage then its more complicated and requires root, i think.

The fact that the phone doesn't see the extra capacity indicates moto hard coded the battery table. Probably not intended for us and was a mistake but rather for the new moto devices launching without removable batteries.

Maybe someone that's rooted and has an extended battery could check the battery stats table to see if its reading the proper mah?

Mine is rooted stock so just tell me what I'm looking for and I can do some dogging.

Id probably let it charge until it thinks its full, then keep it charging a couple more hours. Take off the charger then use root explorer to delete /data/system/batterystats.bin

The system should generate a brand new batterystats.bin after a few seconds and hopefully it will be populated with the capacity of the new battery as 100%.

Don't plug it back in but instead wear that sucker down pretty low. See what happens. That's probably the most logical place to start.

The Photon is by far the best battery life Android I've ever owned. I'm a fairly heavy user and the battery life has been amazing for me. Running stock ROM and rooted only for Titanium Backup.

Couldn't agree more. While I could almost always make a full day on my past phones, its not uncommon for me to be plugging in the photon with 50% at the end of the day.

I've tried that on multiple occasions with apps that clear the battery stats file and it's never worked.

So I went ahead and killed the battery stats file by hand and no help as usual. I wonder, is there a table someplace where battery information about voltage and the like is stored? Is anyone running a non stock Rom able to confirm that they get true battery info?
