Photon Bootloader unlocked - hope for Bionic?!

That's great news because it's an SBF file using RSD Lite. It's like flashing the D1 all over again.

i hope so, Preach!! the only thing that gives me pause is that, at least to me, Moto devices on vzw seem to be more locked down than on other carriers. hopefully, this just means that it might take a little longer, and not that it can't be done - all indications are good!

a dual core OMAP oc'd - are you kidding me?!?!! that thing will absolutely fly!!! Preach, after the Storm, i think you might wet yourself once you get your hands on that thing... :p

Most likely not since the bionic uses different processor and has different internals. I mean the d3 has still not been rooted where as the photon is very similar to the atrix so that could be what was used to unlock it. Not to mention unless another sbf is leaked from moto it isnt looking like it. That and the fact that verizon seems to want their moto's locked down like no other. Look at the droid x/x2 neither has root on 2.3.4 unless it was rooted on a previous version and installed the rooted software.

D-Backs, ftw!!!

update: J-Up just hit #25!!

Just recently root has been obtain for the sprint htc evo 4g. Found by Revolutionary. But the same method also works for multiple devices such as the thunderbolt and other. The evo 4g just receive an ota 2.3.3 gingerbread a few day ago which removed root and unlocked bootloader for most. I assume bionic is 2.3.4 version but I assume the method still exist as it was recently found. This really give me hope. I'm still researching this method of rooting gingerbread so I'm still don't much about it yet. Kinda interested to see if it would trickle over to the D3

Edit: thunderbolt does even have official gingerbread yet but Revolutionary has included the thunderbolt as supported in this exploit/method. For what ever that is worth, idk

Well even if it takes a little while to root this thing when it's released, this is promising.

New headline...Moto droid bionic delayed again due to moto relocking down the bootloader even more lmao.

If they did something dumb like that I would consider not buying the phone. You can delay the phone for upgrades and fixing it, not locking down the bootloader XD

Just don't forget the Bionic is sporting the TI OMAP. I'm not trying to put a damper on the party but that is something to consider. This is good news yes but there is still a big hurdle to clear. Remember Photon and Atrix are Tegra devices. Whole other animal.

So is it safe to assume that some engineer within Motorola leaked the SBF file that was used for this unlock?

Thanks to the acquisition, I don't think we'll have to worry about this any longer.

It's going to take some time before we see anything coming out of this acquisition. Its not like a light switch. The future sure does look bright though I will tell you that. Ill definitely jump back on the Motorola bandwagon if Google whips them back into shape.

Concur 100%. I can't see how this won't take months to see any sort of changes. Unless Moto had something in the works re: unlocking (which allegedly they did) don't hold your breath.

Oh don't get me wrong. It'll definitely take time. The acquisition itself won't even be finalized until December/January, however it does bode well for the future of this and all other Motorola devices.

Party damperer...er.

Yea....totally forgot all about that. Wonder is that enough to make ppl want a Tegra 2 device over one with an OMAP...

Tegra 2 seems nice n all. Maybe they're best with 3G and Wimax, HSPDABCDEDF+ right now.
