Photon Problems In Bionic Also?

Not sure how much of the Photon tech will be used in the Bionic, but looking at the Photon thread, I see that there are issues some are having with the phone. Battery life, which doesn't surprise me, but it appears that there is a nasty problem with no sound on placed and received calls.

Coming from a rooted Eris (Shed's GB version) that has this intermittent issue, regardless of the ROM version I'm running, can be a real problem for me with the Bionic.

Probably making something out of nothing, but in the least I'll more than likely be a second wave Bionic purchaser so as to wait on commentary from you more adventurous types.

This is purely a guess, but I'm concerned. I would imagine they have nearly identical internals.

I wouldn't judge the Bionic's performance or issues based on the Photon. Even though they might share the same or similar internal parts, the call problem sounds like it might be software based (this is a big assumption as I haven't really read into that particular problem). One problem in one phone won't necessarily carry over to another, especially if the Bionic uses different drivers, kernel, and radios (which it most definitely will).

If you are really concerned by this then I would wait a couple of weeks after the dust settles and let the first buyers report any problems with the device.

There are always people with issues on every phone out there. I notice a lot of "This phone is awesome!" comments as well. I wouldn't get too worked up about it.

I wouldn't worry about those problems, like they said, it's software and Motorola is aware of the issue. So even if the Bionic had the problem it would probably be patched in coordination with the Photon. I expect smooth sailing

Don't forget, the Bionic has a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT RADIO (LTE) than the Proton, so even the software would be different in many respects...of course, that could have its own problems! But as much work and testing going into this phone, I am hoping for a great release.

When the Bionic comes out, there will be problems. The same problems that arise with any new phone. They'll happen to some, but not to most and they'll be remedied by Verizon.

I wouldn't worry too much. Worst case scenario is one more trip to the store for an exchange.

The Bionic is running a Texas Instruments chipset w/LTE while the Photon is running a Nvidia chipset with WiMax. The only thing they have in common is Gingerbread. It is up to Motorola's software devs to ensure a stable kernel. It is extremely flimsy to attempt to justify using the Photon as a reference point for problems in the Bionic.

As usual, it will be best to hold off for a week or two and see what kind of initial reports/reviews come out about the phone. Heck, by the time the Bionic is out we may have info on the next Nexus, HTC and Samsung phones too. A little patience goes a long way in ensuring your satisfaction.

Plus Photon is running Gingerbread 2.3.3 and the Blur that Is on the X, Atrix and X2. Bionic is Gingerbread 2.3.4 and the new 3d Blur like on the D3.

Agreed whole-heartedly. And I probably will wait the couple weeks as I mentioned. It's reassuring to read of the true "differences" between the sets.

Not knowing of these differences is why I posted so being "flimsy" is not accurate of my concerns. I have these "silent call" issues currently and any perceived, or real, tech connection between the two sets gives me pause.

None the less, I do appreciate your info.
