Hi! Hi! I finally decided to enter the 21st century and purchased a cell phone. It's a Motorola Moto G5 2025.. I found a carrier with excellent rates, I don't intend to use it for anything but a phone, basically. I took some photos, and followed the procedures to transfer them with a USB cable. I don't intend to use it on the internet, but I have connected it to my wifi router. It sets up a directory on the PC, and it has 2 subfolders---DCIM and Pictures. There's nothing in the Pictures folder, and the DCIM folder opens to a Camera folder. I;m using windows 10. I click on the Camera folder and a green bar slowly proceeds across the top of internet explorer, then I get 12 slamted rectangular images that kind of look like a usb plug with a blue cross above the left end that look like cross-hairs. And there is one jpg file. I took 6 photos. When I click on the jpg file I get this error message---An unexpected error is keeping you from copying the file. error code 0x8007065D. Now I have 3 gift cars from Amazon from last Christmas which I tried to use a few weeks ago. After a nightmare 2 1/2 hours chatting with the techs? , I won't go into the details but the IQ level had to be almost 80, I was finally told to take pictures of the cards, then they could tell if they were genuine. I know they're genuine. I won't deal with amazon gift cards again. I took 2 pictures of each card.I tried another usb port, but no luck. I reconnected and clicked a windows message about what to do with this device and clicked on import photos and videos. I clicked on import and it said We cannot reach this device. What is happening ? How do I transfer the photos? Any and all responses will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome to the forums. Try plugging into your PC again. When you do, on your phone you should see a system notification or 2. There should be one that says something to the effect of USB charging. Tap that one. It will prompt a screen where you can change it from charging to transfer media files (all of these steps are rough paraphrasing; every OEM uses different wording).

If you don't think you did it right, or you are sure you picked the wrong thing, unplug the phone, wait a few seconds, and then plug it back in, and start over. You won't hurt anything.

Once you are connected, your phone should show up in Windows File Explorer.

I'm honestly a bit tired, and I will try to remember to check on this thread tomorrow, but @B. Diddy answers these often and is a few hours behind me, he might be able to step in tonight.

Thanks for the response. I tried tapping the usb charging notification several times, even holding it down, but it doesn't do anything. Is there anither way to get to this setting? Thanks.

You can try searching in settings for USB Preferences. It may not come up if you are disconnected from a PC.

Welcome to Android Central forums. It sounds like you were able to connect to the PC in the first scenario. You opened Windows File Explorer and found the folders on the phone, the green bar is just Windows' progression indicator showing that its reading the memory location or searching a location, and that all sounded like it was working. By the way pictures taken with the phone's stock camera app should show up in the DCIM folder. DCIM stands for Digital Camera IMages. In the second part of your story, where Windows was not able to automatically grab pictures off of the phone like a drive, I have never seen a phone that this worked with.

In your second story you talked about taking pictures of the gift cards and connecting to the PC. While the PC may be able to see the phone, thus the message asking what to do, but the phone still needs to be unlocked and the USB settings on the phone still need to be set to "transfer". I've never seen an instance where File Explorer could automatically pull media off of a device and I believe this is probably due to the need for the phone to be unlocked and the USB settings need to be correct. Even if you have set it in the past and made transfers, you'll need to set these each time you connect, and this is for security so that anyone can't grab your phone and plug it in to a PC and access your data. In the meantime, I suggest you follow your original steps since they worked to get you access to the media. Once you have access let us know if you continue to have corrupted files and we can help you with that issue.

You may find that you are not able to drag and drop in some cases. A better practice is to right click, cut or copy the image to the new location. This protects you because if the image is deleted or otherwise removed from the phone they don't go to the trash, they just get deleted.

FYI, these are the screens Golfdriver97 was trying to get you to.

If you're using Google photos on your phone then when you log into your PC with same account as your phone the photos should appear there with Google photo on the PC no need to transfer with a cable.

View yes, but if you then want to transfer them to say, on site storage at original quality. You'll have to download them from the cloud to your PC. Easy peasy.

Thanks for the responses. I found info on transferring photos with bluetooth. But I need a file manager as the motorola g5 2025 doesn't seem to have one. I tried an app search but there wasn't a fille manager found. I think I have to set up a google account, which I'm loath to do since I don't trust google. Then something about setting up a gmail account. I think I cam remove the gmail account after I use it---at least I hope so since I don't want to use my data with e-mails. There's something about finding file managers ib the app store. I'm not sure how any of this works. Thanks.

I came across mobile devices in windows 10 settings. I switched on: Allow this PC access to your mobile device, and a screen popped up telling me to sign into my windows account/ What exactly is a windows account? Am I giving to much access to microsoft to my computer? Will this allow me to transfer the photos? Thanks.

Are you wanting to transfer photos with a cable or Bluetooth?

Have you tried any of the above that's been given?

What's the last thing you tried, and what happened?

When you're looking for your file manager are you seeing an app called, Files? This is Motorola's default file manager.

Thanks for the responses. I've connected the phone to the PC with bluetooth, but I have no file manager. I've searched, and nada. I figure I'll have to open a google account to find a file manager app. However, when I try to add the google account, it doesn't accept my e-mail. Do I have to open an e-mail account on my phone? If so, cam I delete it after I transfer the photos? Cam I also delete the google account after I transfer? I have only a 64gb storage, and my plan is for only 2gb data. I intend to use the phone as a phone only. Thanks.

I found a folder called files in the google icon. It shows all the photos, but if I tap on a photo it just opens the file to a larger picture. I guess it's not a file manager since I can't select a file to get to the options of transferriing a file.

Are you telling us that you do not have a Google account/Gmail address that is needed to sign into and activate your Android phone? Without a Gmail account you don't have access to the Play Store, you cannot use YouTube, you cannot active an Android device, you more than likely will not have any data back-up protection, and a whole list of other issues one would face without a Gmail account. While a Google account is not needed to transfer data between devices it is needed for just about everything else.

Do you have access to the Play Store? It's an app in your app drawer and a safe place to get apps. Getting apps from random online places is dangerous as many of these places are not regulated or not as regulated as the Play Store. This means that apps may be altered or suffer problems that the official version wouldn't have.

What happens when you try to open the Play Store app?

A Windows account is just that, an account so that Windows knows who is using their products. It is not needed to transfer data via a cable. This is all simpler with a cable but if you want to use BT see the video below.

Thanks for the response. I don't have a g-mail account, so I don't have a google account. I don't want one. I'm only going to use this phone as a phone to make and receive calls. I've tried every method, usb, bluetooth. I can't find a setting to turn the usb charging off. I thought it would be easy to transfer photos, but apparently mot. I'm just going to wait until my niece comes over and takes the photos, then e-maisl them to me. Thanks.

Usually if you connect a cable to a PC or laptop when you pull down the notification shade, just drag down from the top, among your notifications there will be one that refers to the USB connection. Sometimes it will have the USB symbol as an icon. Touching that will give you options for the connection. Just connect both ends of the cable then look for the notification.
