pics dont download easily or not at all --S21 ultra 128g

when someone sends me a text message with a pic,or just a pic, the pic takes forever to download or not at all. I've tried resetting my modem and such when needed already, but still... (where i live, I have no regular data signal)
what, if any, settings are there to change?

Since picture message use mobile data , which message app your using? Google message should do this over WiFi

Yeah because you have data connection in town but problem is your house you lose connection

Shouldn't either messaging app (Google or Samsung) just plain work on Wi-Fi provided the phone is set up for Wi-Fi calling? Without the added complexity of needing RCS enabled at both ends?

I have an interest in this because we have very poor AT&T service at the house and around the neighborhood. My wife's S21+ is using Samsung's messaging app currently, maybe I should switch her to Google (provided RCS isn't a requirement).

Are you able to change the preference of wi-fi vs cell in the wi-fi calling settings? If so, what happens if you set it to prefer cell signal?

I was thinking Wi-Fi calling also worked for MMS, but I could well be wrong about that. Moral of the story - switch the wife's S21+ to Google Messages and pretend "the icon just changed color" :-D

Unfortunately WiFi calling doesn't work that way with messages, but both on Google messages you'll be fine

Phones are supposed to figure out how to download MMS messages on wi-fi calling, but I think some networks are more problematic than others (I recall AT&T being more prone to this problem).

I have the exact problem sending pictures! Receiving is niether here nor there

Wifi takes 1-3 minutes if it doesn't fail..

4G/5G (any variation) is instant! No lies..

It's been like this on every Sammy Flagship I've owned for the last several years. I'm a habitual phone upgrader mind you

I know standard texting requires a mobile data connection for media like photos, they don't come over wifi, at least on Verizons network.
