When i take a full 8mp res picture and send it as an mms it compresses the picture to extremely small sizes, usually around 600x300 or 25kb. In the 'messaging' settings you can choose to set the maximum size to 1MB which i have set. I do know a full res picture will be over 1MB but it should atleast be enough to fill the entire screen with the image. Does anyone think this is a glitch and will be addressed in an update? Could it be due to the such high resolution of the phones screen?

I was having the same problems with my HTC EVO 4G LTE. I work for a Realtor and I'm always out taking pictures of properties inside and out to provide pictures for my clients. It's really embarrassing when they call you back and tell you they cant barley see the pictures I sent via mms text or e-mail. So my 14 day tryout was almost over and HATE TO SAY IT but I will. I returned back my HTC EVO LTE and got the Galaxy SIII. Well what do you know I don't have that problem anymore. Full size pictures using the mms text and e-mail. I really hate this phone is not the same as the HTC EVO LTE but is really getting the job done. I hope HTC gets a fix on their next update and if they do I'm getting my EVO LTE back..
I've been wondering the same thing. I did a test by attaching a picture to both the 300kb and 1MB setting. When I looked at the details of the attachment there was no size difference in the two. I hope this gets worked out.

MMS seems to be inconsistent, but I have no problem sending full size photos in email. Just attach the photo and it's fine. This is with the stock email app or the Gmail app.
This isn't an htc evo issue its a stock messaging app issue, other phones from other manufactures and phones on other carriers do the same thing. Using the stock messaging app compresses the hell out of any mms, some worse than others. Using third party messaging apps like go sms, chomp, or handcent will fix the issue. Well let me rephrase that, there will still be compression going on just no where near as bad as the stock messaging app. The only way to not have any compression at all is to send the pic as an email attachment.
My wife's Galaxy SII and my previous Epic does not compress the image as much as the Evo is doing. I'm not arguing that compression isn't normal, I'm just wondering why it compresses and resizes so much.
Also, what is the setting in the MMS menu named "Maximum message size" for? It has an option for 300k, 600k, and 1M? The only thing I can guess is that it ensures the total number of attached images remain below the setting.
It's not even a messaging issue...it's a Sprint issue.

This is not a sprint issue. My old galaxy epic touch and my wife's old school epic send and recieve pics in the stock messaging app that fill the screen and look great. I have had my EVO lte for over a week and I just noticed this when my wife sent me an 8m pic from my old epic touch and the pic I received was a tiny 300 x 600 thumbnail. It pisses me off. I thought her phone was set at low res but nope its my new EVO lte. 
I have many issues with this phone the biggest being the piss poor multitasking issue or lack of I should say. I feel like I downgraded from my epic touch galaxy s2 and I used her upgrade to get this newest "best phone".

Think it allows u to set the mms default sizing. Can't believe people trade their phones in for these types of issues that can be fixed easily.
I am waiting to see if google wallet gets fixed in an ota before I root again. There are other ways to send photos as mentioned above, with 3rd party apps and the like.

I know there's fixes if ur rooted but I don't want to root and flash a Rom to fix a problem that shouldn't be there to begin with. Plus if u root and flash doesn't that void your warranty and prevent u from getting ota updates. with the trusty old sammys I never had to do anything and they did all these things that I just took for granted I guess. I thought a smart phone was suppose to be smart enough to multitask stock.

If it voids your warranty then HTC needs to inform retailers about it, because I have returned and traded in 4 rooted phones with no issue. Besides, unrooting and returning phone to stock is easy if your that worried about getting about it.

And I sorry if I came across like I was attacking you. I just don't know much about the rooting thing. I heard it voids your warranty and that after doing it you may not be able to receive the ota updates that I'm counting on to fix all these problems hopefully. I don't really even like to run a bunch of 3rd party apps because eventually after my wife installs a bunch of crap on her phone it gets slow and glitchy. So I hate to even put a messenger app on it. And if I do that does everyone I im have to have it installed too?
It isn't just u, and its alright, I understand where ur coming from. Seems like the general consensus here is to reject rooting altogether where on xda it is a given. I appreciate u having an open mind about it. I like to learn new things everyday, and keeping my mind closed to new ideas is counter-productive.
To answer your question about 3rd party apps. No, the other person on the receiving end does not need the same app. Or shouldn't, I only know of a few exceptions, but they don't deal with mms.
Maybe try using mms on apps like handcent and the like. I use the stock sms, so I don't have too much experience with them. However, like most apps offering a different experience from stock, they include more options such as default mms file resizing.
I will look into it some more and see if I can find u an answer. Don't have a phone to send a pic too atm though, so I can't test it fully, just by what the app says it offers.

Hope this isn't a stupid question but with handcent does that allow u to change or override the setting limitations on the stock app so u can use that or do I have to use the actual handcent messaging app? I'm using go pro right now and I can receive full screen pics but I just don't care for some of the features for instance in landscape mode after u type ur message u have to remove the keyboard before sending which isn't a big deal but it's an extra step that's unnecessary on the stock app. Also I just don't like the thought of receiving all these messages in to diff apps simultaneously. Seems redudundent and probably uses extra memory. It would be ok if I could disable the stock app temporary while I'm using a 3rd party one. I wonder if HTC will change the limit in a future update. It's quite annoying. I know I'm anal about little details. I may have a mild case of ocd. Lol
