Pictures are beautiful but massive

Have anyone else noticed how big the picture files are? It seems like each pic I take with this wonderful camera are around 7mb each. I've never seen pictures take that much space before. I guess it's because of all the pixels and 1.9f aperture and all that other high tech camera jargon lol. Just an observation.

I changed my camera to the 12M (4:3) setting for this exact reason. This way it is framed better for viewing on a computer, printing out, etc., while decreasing the file size without decreasing quality.

There's several picture size options in the camera settings menu. By default it's set at the highest pixel setting which I believe is 16m see below, you can change it. In reality if your not gonna print the pictures and blow them up on a canvass to display you don't really need 16m. Also if your not taking scenery or group photos you probably won't need 16:9 aspect ratio 1:1 is a perfect Sq (Instagram photos) thus making the photo data size smaller as well.

Bigger is better, you can always resize or crop and not lose quality. However, you can not enlarge them without loss of quality.

Interesting discussion, im gonna switch to a 4:3 if its a big difference in file size. Can someone post an example of a 16:9 vs 4:3 file size similar picture?

The issue I have with using 4:3 vs. 16:9 is that the native sensor layout is 16:9. Thus when you choose the 4:3 resolution it essentially crops the sides out to get you a 4:3 layout image.

I would much rather have the full resolution to work with and then crop as I see fit.
