Yesterday I was kinda bummed to see that all of the colors I had assigned to people in the stock messaging app were gone and that my messages looked more like an iPhone app. I checked in settings to see if I could reassign them but there wasn't even an option for colors. Today they are all back.

I didn't screenshot it. Anyone else notice this or know what happened?

Hi! Hmm, my stock app did not revert back to former/black colourings. Hopefully other users will chime in soon with their own experiences.

It's strange that there is no setting to change the colour. Have you restarted your phone to see if that did anything?

I really like the simplistic white but my theory is Google will implement the option to change the conversation colors in the future. They just rolled back the new material designed reportedly due to a bad bug they found. I personally hope they get a fix quick because I love the new UI but I do hope they give us the option to change the chat colors.

No I haven't. I'll do it now and see what happens.

The colors actually came back today. But I'm wondering why they were gone yesterday?

Aha! Ok thanks. I felt like I was losing my mind. I have to say, I like the colors but now that mine has switched back to colors, the uncluttered white was nice! Maybe we'll be able to toggle it at some point. Wishes. :)

I have also noticed there is no longer any sound when sending a SMS where before there was a small short pop sound. Anyone else notice this?

Any chance that you're participating in the Google Digital Wellbeing beta? That has a grayscale feature that might cause the behavior you describe.

my problem with these new apps is all the pastel colors yet we have regular material themed buttons and such. As of now, the pastel colors just look totally out of place with the aesthetic of Android

Yep, same issue here, in spite of having "hear outgoing message sounds" turned on in settings.
